I just discovered that most brands of baby wipes are made with rayon and polyester and other plastic-based fibres - which is why they aren't flushable/compostable!!! I did not know that!
We've been using washable wipes for number ones for a while now, but we've still been using disposable wipes for number 2's. I did some research today and found an interesting idea: Take a roll of high quality unbleached paper towels and cut them in half. Remove the inner cardboard tube. Place them in your plastic wipes tub so that they dispense through the hole, and saturate them in a mix of 500ml warm water, and a drop or two each of tea tree oil and mild baby soap. Voila - easy to dispense, compostable, and biodegradable! Oh, and CHEAP!
