Hi there, I'm sorry if this has been covered but I can't seem to find the answer/advice I'm looking for.
My lo has been on Aptamil comfort for 5 weeks now and has been ok on it - however the last 2 days he seems really out of sorts, not sleeping, really whiney and pooing like a trooper!! This has made me question how I'm making up his bottles (suspect he has an upset tummy) I pre boil, wait for the water to cool, store in fridge until I need. When required I warm the water in a bottle warmer, add the powder, shake and feed - Is this wrong? Should I be making the feeds up with boiling water and then storing in fridge, or should I be making feeds up fresh as I need them? (hope not as this would be an utter nightmare!!)
I'm interested to see what everyone else does and curious as to whether this could be the reason for his upset tummy, even though he's been fine for 5 weeks.
Any help/advice is much appreciated - thanks

Hia, I use Aptamil comfort too. We boil the kettle wait 30 minutes make the bottles up- quick cool them in freezing water then pop in the fridge. I try and use within 12 hours, always within 24. You need to use the boiled water after 30 mins so that it is the right temperature to steralise the milk powder.
I know this is not recommended by Aptamil and the say you should make each bottle up as you need it, but this is not possible for me. x

Thanks hun, I think i'll give this a try as like you say making up fresh feeds everytime is just not realistic in my opinion (esp when you've got a screaming, hungry baby!) Can I just ask how you then warm the milk? and what you do when you are out and about?

i premake. Comfort needs to be made with hot water (above 70) but not too hot. X

I also make it with boiling water and cool quickly

If I am out and about I take warm water in a flask to heat the bottle or sometimes I heat the bottle before I leave the house and then put it in the keep warm insulated part of my bag and use it within 2 hours, my LO will drink it as long as it's not cold. I know some people use an ounce or less water when making bottles if they are going out and then take boiling water with them and add it to heat the bottle up x

Hi, I do the same as noree. I boil the kettle and pour it into my sterilised bottles and wait only a few minutes before adding the powder. A kettle boils at 80 degrees (check if you dont believe) not the 100 degrees people think and the only reason the manufactures of formula tell u to wait for the 30 mins is to reduce the risk of scalding yourself and suing them....not because it damages the nutrients (I studied chemistry at uni....although now I have retrained as a painter and decorator...lol..completely different I know). I shake the bottles for 10 seconds and then put them into iced water to cool them down as quick as possible and then put them in the fridge. Generally in the day I make each bottle up when I know she will be wanting one but at night I have 2 in the fridge ready and then I pop them in microwave for 40 seconds (based on a 120ml feed) and give it a darn good swilling round to avoid the hotspots a microwave can create. If I am going out I take a carton and a sterilised bottle. Hope this helps x

don't know if anyones noticed that comfort milk separates when sitting awhile? dunno if its supposed to tho! im changing to cow and gate stage 1 as comfort is fed up wit h leaking dirty nappies lol
