Hi,

Quick question on making up bottles. I make mine for the day in advance (so this morning will make up three bottles now for the next three feeds). I recently read that you cannot use boiling water, it needs to cool a bit first, as the boiling water can kill the nutrients. I've been adding the powder directly into the boiling water and not letting it cool - is that wrong? And could it mean that my LO hasn't been getting the nutrients?

Thanks x

I use SMA and make it up in advance too, it says on the instructions to use boiling water and not to let it cool for longer than 30 minutes, I leave it around 20 mins and then add the formula, let it cool some more and then put it in the fridge....

I always put it straight into boiling water :/ - I mean, when you've go a hungry baby - You can expect them to wait 20 mins until the kettle cools!

Someone on here had asked a couple of the formula manufacturers about this (I forget which ones!) and was told that it's a load of rubbish, and the only reason you're told to wait 30 mins is to reduce the risk of scolding from the hot water! Someone else the other day said she got a probe thermometer from somewhere, and if the water was left for 30 mins, it had cooled down to below the recommended 70 degrees! I don't think you can win! I put it in boiling water TBH, and Freya's thriving x

Thanks - I'll stick with my current routine I think as he is doing really well and gaining weight perfectly on his percentile so hopefully it is fine. I can always leave the kettle for as long as I can depending on how hungry he is!!!

Thanks for your time in replying, I really appreciate it. x
