Hey, sorry its took me a while to get round to doing this!
As you know, i tripped last sunday (30th) and after that, massive plug loss and i went in to early labour with contractions every 10 mins... this lasted on and off until the thursday. I can honestly say that was the worst pain i have ever experienced in my entire life. I dont know what exactly it was but, my whole tummy, backside and vagina just hurt beyond belief and paracetamol didnt stop it.... this pain became clear when he was born.
On thursday 3rd, we went in to hospital for 7am. I was told there would be a delay due to a broken lift, they did obs, measured me for socks, filled out notes and then i sat and started writing babys journal with husband. What felt like a few mins later they came and asked me to change in to a gown as they were ready for me. I changed and we walked though, then the reality of it all hit me and i had a bit of a panic on the way to the theatre. The midwife said it was normal as with an elcs you have a lot of time to think.
will changed in to scrubs then they took us in to the theatre. They put a canula in, prepped my back and gave me a spinal, then inserted a catheter and did lots of preliminary checks.
Timeline from my notes is as follows;
woman in theatre 09:51
Anaesthetic commenced: 10:01(prep) 10:11 (angs)
Operation commenced 10:26
baby delivered 10:29
Placenta delivered :10:30
Operation completed 10:48
Needles, swaba and instruments checked and complete: 10:50
Transferred out of theatre: 11:00
It literally felt like 10 mins for the whole thing.
my blood loss was only 300 mls- which i think is absolutely amazing- thats less than a can of coke. They struggled to keep my blood pressure up as it has a tendency to drop low, and they said my uterus was a bit knackered as it wouldnt contract down.
But the reason for the pain and my uterus struggling is that baby joel was 10lb 8oz (4.76 kilos!) as he was born the registrar turned to me and asked how tall i was? when i answered 5'5 she said i was very very lucky that this was an elcs as there is no way i would have delivered him naturally... looking at him now i wholeheartedly agree.
I have experienced no pain at all until my drug chart was sent to the pharmacy so they couldnt administer pain releif for a few hours.
I was standing up and moving around by 10pm on thursday night, (a whole 24 hours quicker than the vaginal birth mum next to me on ward!!!) and i left before her on friday evening. Today at 3 days pp, i have been out and about and i feel fine. a little dizzy from time to time but nothing major.
