Last night I was really shivery and couldn't get warm so I took my temperature this morning and it's nearly up to what it was when I was in hospital with my womb infection so I thought, uh-oh it's back. However, I haven't had any symptoms of it. At the same time, I woke up this morning and my right breast is killing me on one side, like from where it starts just in front of my underarm and in a circular like patch. It also hurt like hell when he fed off it this morning. However, there's no red patch which I thought was the usual sign. Going to ring the doctors when they open but don't know whether to mention mastitis or assume it's the womb infection?

I have mastsis without the red patch, is there a hard patch there?

Kind of, it just feels swollen, like the skin is stretched too far. It's the breast that gets really engorged and he hates feeding off it because it gushes so much so has a really bad latch so I expect it is. It's bloody sore!

It sounds like it could be. When I had mastitis, 2 times, I never had a red patch. Do you feel sick? I felt like I had the flu when I had it. I would call your dr and let them know, see what they think, when I called mine they just called me in a prescription without even seeing me to get me one it asap because they knew that's what it was

sounds similar to me, id def go to doctor asap as mw said mine would clear and it didnt it got worse.

massive hugs:hugs: cos its horrible!

Thanks ladies, I'll get onto them as soon as they open :)

I found the red patch appear quite a long time after I should have got myself to a dr. by the time I realised it was mastitus, I couldn't walk there so I had to get them to come out which took all day and I was soooooo ill by then :( better safe than sorry. Shivers and engorgement came 12 hours before redness.

Well it is mastitis. The shivers and aches kicked in big style so I got straight on the phone. I drove up to the doctors and couldn't even carry the car seat so had to take Theakston in just as he was. Luckily the male doctor needed a nurse to 'witness' the exam anyway so she held him for me. On some antibiotics and hoping they kick in soon, the pain just seems to have gotten worse and he said he could see a red patch but because my boobs are so big I can't see that far so hubby has to check it every day to make sure it isn't getting worse.

Also, be sure to feed as much as you can from that side to help clear the blocked duct that is causing the infecation. Also you can get in a nice warm shower, run the water there and massage the knot towards the nipple. IT is going to hurt like hell, but keep massaging to help break it up. Drink a lot of water, and stay in bed as much as possible with your little one and be sure to eat well.

I agree with everything Samantha said! I hope you feel better soon1 I was feeling much better within 24hrs of starting the meds, hope it helps you quick too

:hugs:

Feed, feed, feed from that side to help with the blockage and have some nice warm realxing baths and get those feet up. :D

glad to hear you got it sorted. The antibiotics will make you feel much better soonest but they might unsettle your baba a bit, Gave Finn a sore tum.

Cheers for the tips girls, I keep feeding off that side but my pump isn't sterilised so tomorrow morning I'm going to express all the excess milk off and just keep doing it without storing it so it just needs washing, not sterilising, iykwim? Been feeding off it as much as possible but now the other one is engorged, go figure! I'd heard it only takes 24hours for the antibiotics to kick in and also about it unsettling him. It's so unfair, the one time you need sleep and he's going to be angsty lol.
