Hey Ladies,

Might be a little random question, however I read somewhere that at 35 weeks your Placenta stops growing and begins maturing/ageing.....Does anyone know how true this is??

I have a scan today to check bubs growth as I have underactive Thyroid and a calcified placenta since 28 weeks. What I am worried about is the calcification getting worse since Im now at that 35 week marker.
Doctors do have a close eye which is the ultimate plus point but still nice to be as educated as you can be i think.

Doctors have said they are trying to get me to 36/37 weeks and consider early deliver as I have calcified placenta and symptamatic of PET with High BP.

Any advice would be great... xx

I don't know anything about your condition but it is true that the placenta starts to mature at this stage yes, hope your midwife can reassure you a little more. And it is definitely good that they are keeping an eye on things. x

I had a scan yesterday and my baby is measuring 35 weeks!
The sonographer said my placenta is starting to be less effective and so i am being induced next week!

As far as I have read in normal pregnancies you should only see calcification of the placenta after 40 weeks gestation but that in certain conditions it can age faster and calcify earlier.

Then again I read elsewhere that babies grow less after 37 weeks - not sure if the reason given was the placenta or not.

They should be keeping a close eye on you though and certainly by 35 weeks even if you went into labour early (or needed to be induced) your baby should be fine. Let us know what does happen or if they see more changes.

Thanks ladies, I shall update more this afternoon, Im a little anxious because I dont want to evict baby before she is ready however, my placenta has been calcified since 28 weeks and so hence the extra scans, I just wondered if today I should prepare myself to see a change in things being that from around 35 weeks i was told that the placenta starts to age....having already been ageing and doctor wanting to see me immediately after scan I wonder if this could be where they decide to throw in the towel......
I shall let you all know as soon as I am back....
xx
