Hi Ladies,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm trying to decide which car seat base to get.....

As far as I can tell.... the Familyfix base is compatible with the ist and 2nd stage car seat, where as the Easyfix just does the 1st stage....

I was wondering if this is the case, would you really need an isofix base for 2nd stage car seat as i would expect mine to be permenantly in the car, where as i need to be able to remove the baby one all the time to click into my travel system/ take into the house etc?

Am I missing something?

the familyfix base is for the maxi cosi pebble, and the pearl but it does also fit the maxi cosi cabrio fix which is what most travel systems use.

it all depends on what car seat after the cabriofix/pebble you want to go for. if you want to go for a pearl then it's all good - if you want to go for the likes of the tobi or the priori they wont fit in the familyfix

I think the advantage of isofix for me is the increased safety so we went for the pebble and family fix base with the idea of getting a pearl in the future.

We went for the Familyfix. We're planning on having more, but we'd still need to buy a seat etc etc so we reckoned this might as well fit both sizes. The next size up seats are huge, I certainly won't be removing it regularly, but it is important to me that we have Isofix as it seems so much safer!

We went for Cabriofix not Pebble as it is lighter/we prefer it.

i went for the easyfix purely because the pearl only goes up to age 4. There are other car seats on the market that go from age 9 months to 12 years that are alot better than the pearl imo which works out cheaper.

Also as long as the seat it fitted correctly with the seat belt it is just as safe as isofix

I'm glad someone mentioned these bases. My familyfix got delivered today but do you have to have a special attachment in your car for it or does it attach using the seat belt, i'm so confused by it. Sorry to hijack your thread Xx

the family fix bases are isofix only so you have to have isofix in your car

Familyfix is an Isofix base, so it fixes onto the chassis/infrastructure of the car as against relying on the seat belts which can give way. I presume your car has Isofix bars? The base attaches to them.

Hijack away!! :winkwink:

Hmmm... was hoping that we'll have bubba number 2 while bubba number 1 would still be in the Pearl sized seat.. therefore, the easyfix would be fine and get whatever 2nd stage seat we wanted... phew - far too much choice! I thought the pram was the hard part and it'd be a case of just going out and picking up a base for it! lol

I've just ordered our familyfix base - they're about to release a new version because people have been having problems with the button that extends the arm that goes down to the floor apparently? We've decided that we'd rather wait and get the new version, if the baby comes before then we can just use the Pebble with the seatbelt, but we were told that it should only be a few weeks before they are in stores as they're already in production. Sorry to confuse things further!

People had a problem with the button?! How odd! I'm not the most technically minded and have managed ours fine, maybe we got lucky.

I think its just on some random ones of them the button is stiff & also made more difficult because its small - they told me they were making the button bigger!? I suppose it can't hurt, especially if you've got fingers like mine which resemble sausages at the moment in the heat!!

We went for the maxi cosi easybase 2 (we don't have isofix thingys in our car!) I was tempted by the family one that would fit the pearl when bubba outgrows his pebble, but tbh I figured the base is most useful in the first year when u are often lifting the seat in and out, whereas we obviously won't be doing that when he goes up a seat size. Also, I didnt like the idea of being stuck with the pearl, it's not a cheap seat and in 12 months time I don't know if that will be the best buy, so much can change in a year- there might be better things out there. I guess the safety issue is the main thing, the base obviously makes it safer but I'm sure the next seat up will be fine without a base or they wouldn't sell them that way. But I'll see how we feel next year, and how our finances are lol!!!! xxx

i have never had a base but i usually leave her seat in the car anyway

i see how they could be more convienient, but they are by no means essential, its no hassle to put the seatbelt round the seat, in fact doesnt take anymore thime than strapping a bigger babe into ff seat

That was my thinking....
