When do you worry about temp?

I know that it's common for a fever after vaccination the woman said expect anything up to 39 degrees.

My 8 week old had it today and he has been so so sleepy all day waking himself up screaming. He's had the correct dose of Calpol every 4 hours and his temp was 37.9 now risen to 38.5 20 mins after Calpol.
I've stripped him down and am keeping an eye on him. I know it's the vaccine causing it but I'm just worried about his temp going up and causing a seizure or me missing possible signs and not taking him to hospital if he needs to be checked at some point) My daughter had a temp or 39.8 when she was 7 weeks old and terrified me to death!!!)

He's also really not wanting to feed at all even though I keep offering the breast

Thanks

It's horrible isn't it, we had the jab last week

It took 48 hours for DS to stop screaming when he was awake, I spent 2 days just trying to keep him asleep!

I'd let him feed when he wants and if his temp doesn't show signs of stabilising or reducing within 30 mins then I'd be calling someone

I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight :)

Keep him stripped down and maybe a lukewarm/tepid bath. Offer breast every 30-60 minutes when he's awake. If his temperature goes above 39 give 111 a call. DS had the first jab at 16 weeks and had a fever for several days and took about a week to get fully back to normal but he did get there.

Thanks both of you for replies. He's been stripped down for a few hours and temp has gone down to 38.1 he's due another lot of calpol soon so I'm hoping that will do the trick. I'm dressing him in thin pjs tonight but will keep checking on him to make sure he isn't cold. My daughter never had any reaction to vaccines so I'm thinking it's definitely men b! Hopefully hes back to his normal happy self soon :( xx

I was warned that the men B jab was a nasty one and it's so hard to see such a little one in pain but it's for their own good

Fingers crossed your LO is back to normal soon :)

Aww poor baby! Is actually call Hun at that age that's a very high temp xx

So after a few more doses of calpol his temp went down and he's much better today. Thanks everyone! I did ask my aunty who is a practice nurse and she said the temp is completely normal anything up to 39 degrees is very common sadly x
