I have just been prescribed Metformin (at long last) have any of you lost weight using these tables and has it kicked started things or will I be put on more drugs?

Feel very lost and confussed

It depends on how much your pcos is effecting your insulin resistance i think. I didn't have insulin problems so metformin did nothing for me and didn't help weight loss but I know of others on here that have lost pounds on it. x

Hi Gem, I was prescribed this about a month ago, just got my second lot. Not noticed any difference at the mo to be honest but here's hoping. Let me know how you get on!

Steph

xx

Hey,

I tried this also made no difference to my cycles either. However I have read numerous success stories from people only on met x

Thanks Ladies,

I took my first tablet last night, I have to start off on 500g one a day for 2 weeks and then go upto 1000g a day (2 tablets) then 2 weeks after that I will be on 1500g a day (3tablets)

Heres hoping.

I'v been taking Met for a while now. I'm on 1500mg of the gradual release stuff. The first cycle I didn't notice much other than the usual nausea and other side affects. After improving my diet a little (Met really helps you lay off the sweet stuff) the side affects went away. I'v taken 2 cycles of Clomid. One without Met and one with. Both cycles I didn't ovulate. This past cycle I didn't make it in to see my doc for another clomid prescription so I decided I wouldn't bother charting and kinda gave up hope for the cycle. I continued to take my Met though. Well wouldn't you know I think I ovulated for the first time in my life this cycle and I can't even know for sure because I didn't chart. lol So it's only my second cycle on Metformin and already it's straightening out my hormones. WOOT! Good luck ladies. :)

P.S. I'm very slim to begin with so I haven't noticed any weight loss. But I'v heard a lot of people lose weight easier on Metformin. Especially if you follow the G.I. Diet. It's amazing.

I am hoping that Metformin will help me lose weight so that I will have a period again, as I have been on the pill since I was 16 and then got put on Cererzette which completely stopped them. I have now been off the pill since 2008 but nothing as yet.

I have pcos but i dont think insulin problems therefore met didnt help me or my cycles, didnt help me loose weight either.. I think i managed 2 months and then the sick feeling etc kicked in and tummy ache.. I decided to quit these and just go it alone as no benefit from the tablets.. x

I am hoping these will work, if they dont I dont know weaht do do next as the FS wont see me until i have got a BMI of under 35

Yeah they can be funny with regards to ttc and BMI.. Have you tried a low carb diet, i know this helps alot of ladies with pcos.. I bought myself the pcos diet book off ebay for aronud £2 its quite good it explains what food cause pcos symtons and gives you diet tips and meal plans.. If you pm me your address you are welcome to have mine dont use it anymore only read it once and i was really quite straight forward and i knew most of the diet tips with pcos already..xx

Thats great news thats I want to happen :haha:

Im on met. When I first started it I started with one a week and then went to two a week and then three. When I started it it brought AF on with in like 5 days...Then the next cycle was exactly 28 days. Im now on my third cycle with it and im on CD34 and no AF or signs and all BFN. However. I do know that first FULL cycle all the way on it i did ovulate and i do think I have noticed some weight loss. Im going to give it a while longer considering I have only been completely through one cycle and waiting on AF in this one. (sorry if this is all confusing im half asleep!)

hahahha i wondered if that was a side effect or just my body cleaning up thoroughly lol

i got prescribed 1700mg daily (2 pills of 850).
had to build up though, 7days 1/2 pill, 7 days 1 pill, 7 days 1 1/2 (but i take a whole one every 16 hours instead bc i suck at breaking them in half)
i don't think i'll get to the full 2 pills a day, nausea is quite overwhelming at times

aw! thankfully i havent had any nausea or stomach ache. i forget to take 3 x daily so i take 1500mg in one go!

did anyone experience spotting after starting on met?

i have pcos for dummies - great book!

as for bmi issues - i know it's a "quick fix" but have you looked at something like Cambridge Diet or Lighter Life? I lost a stone in a fortnight on Cambridge. Amazing diet. Its not the most ideal way to lose weight but if you are desperate, it's worth looking into. xx

Thanks for all your replys, I think I have the nausea side affect, ; ((( it keeps coming over me in waves.

Good luck to everyone
