got my script for metformin start taking it tomorrow, just wondering is it best to take morning or night? x

Hi,
Your FS should have advised you when best to take it. What dose are you on? I take 2 tablets and take one with breakfast and one at night with my dinner.

She said that some people find it better at night and some find it better in the morning, So thought i would see what people think

I take one right before breakfast and another before lunch. It makes me feel nauseous if I take it before dinner for some reason. Whatever you do, make sure you take it with food unless it's slow release. If it's just one tablet, I would do it before your biggest meal of the day. Some people like big lunch, others dinner, yet others, like me, breakfast ;)

I take my metformin (3 pills) 30 min to an hour(sometimes longer) before I eat the first meal of the day. I found that if waited til evening the pills did not digest in my system.(sorry, tmi)

i have to take one a day to start with then build it up till i am taking 3 a day, so when i am on 3 a day do i have to take them separately during the day not all together? x

Yes, you take them separately and with meals. If you start with one, then I'd say, do it with lunch first, unless if you normally like to have big breakfast (then start with breakfast).

Thank you, It does say on the label take with or just after food, so i will start tonight with my tea as i don't have big breakfast or lunch x

I built myself up on them because i had heard about the side effects which helped alot and i didn't suffer at all!

I now take them before my lunch and before tea. I don't have a big enough breakfast on a weekday to take them with brekkie xxx

Yeah i have been told to build my self up slowly until i am on 3 a day, I took my first one last night and period started this morning, could it be the metformin or do you think its just pure coincidence? x

I haven't had a period since i started on it but then everyone is different so i don't know hun xx

I would say coincidence :) It doesn't have such immediate effect. I would compare taking your first Metfomin tablet to eating protein-only dinner. It prevents easy carb absortion, which it result doesn't cause your usual insulin spikes and already that normalizes your other hormone production. But hormonal cycle that leads to a period is not done in a day. Unless you're having anovulatory bleeding.

Last month I had my first 28 days cycle in a year, after being on Metformin for about a month a half. It's still early for me to say if that wasn't a coincidence either. After 3-4 months I will know.

Yeah it just seems weird as my periods in the last 13 months have been between 65-100 days between, this one has only been 30 days, so my shortest ever. plus when i had a scan at the hospital on friday the f/s said that the lining was really thin so didn't look like i was going to have a period in the next 4 weeks. Its really confusing just have to wait and see what happens x

When i first started, i took it with my evening meal. Then when i went to two breakfast and dinner, then added lunch.

You need to find whats best for you though.

Has your specialist mentioned the possible side effects? I was poorly the first week.

Yeah she told me all about the side effects so i was ready for them, but i guess i am one of the lucky ones because haven't had any bad side effects, upped my dose yesterday morning to 1000mg and still feeling great with them :D x

That's awsome! I was really poorly with them and find even now (after a year) if i eat too much sugar or carbs i still get poorly.

:hi:

I take 3x500mg a day - one with breakfast, lunch and then dinner. I take it after my first mouthful of food and then carry on with my meal. I've been on it since November and I'm doing ok with the side effects, just have the occasional day of tummy upset. It has really helped my cycles though - if you look at my charts you can see the it's bought my cycles down to 29/30 days regular from irregular 30-50 days :happydance: it happened almost immediately for me! Just hoping it'll help my create a sticky bean next time!!!

Good luck ladies xxx

my f/s told me to go on a no carb diet so that's prob why i haven't had any side effects? I haven't had any since starting the tablets x
