Hiya

Okay so I know you are not 'meant' to pre boil and store bottles in fridge but night time feeding is proving a bit of a nightmare so I have boiled and put in the fridge LO bottles for the night. I was going to heat them in microwave and make sure they are shook plenty to ensure no heat spots then add milk. Is this okay?

Also how long do I heat in microwave for and do I take lid off or leave on?

xx

Hi Hun,

Congrats on your beaut baby. I hope your feeling ok. I remember my lil chick at 6 days old. I still felt awful lol

I use mam and I have heated in the microwave too. Leave the whole top off the bottle and it all depends on your microwave! I used to heat for 30 secs just to take the chill off but your microwave might e different. Start at 10 secs and shake and test and keep going up until you think it's the right temp.

Hope that helps xxx

My 7 oz bottles take 45 secs in my microwave from the fridge I take the whole lid of the put on once heated and give a good shake!

Like PP said start at 10 sec and keep going untill right untill you know how long your bottles take x

dumb question, but how do i tell the right temp of a bottle........ i feel a right thicko asking

To check temp just squirt on the inside of your wrist. I will sometimes check on my tongue or under it. :)

i've tried it on my inner wrist (heating water in bottle) and i cannot feel it so think its the right temp, but when i open the bottle and dip my finger in its rather hot... i can hold my finger in it no prob but seems a bit hot for a baby. yet 10 seconds less in the ding and it chills my wrist

I'd always go with the cooler if you will be feeding straight away! People also say that the bottle may keep heating even after taking it from the microwave.

X

so its ok to heat the bottles in the microwave?? i make up all my babies bottles for the day and leave them on the worktop and just pop them in a jug of boilking water when its feed time, alot quicker if i could pop them in the microwave x

Do you add the milk to the bottles and leave them out on the side? If so I would put them in the fridge as they milk would go off this way!

Or add the milk just before feeding as it would be safer for your lo. X

i add the formula to the boilnig water in the bottles and leave them on the worktop and just pop them in boiling water jug when i need them :S dont tell me i have been doing them all wrong :(

Yeah keep them in the fridge or bacteria will multiply and make the milk go off x

formula goes off at room temp you shouldn't do this.

Easiest thing to do is..
1) Boil water
2) Add water to sterilised bottles
3) seal and leave on.the side
4) Add the powder to the room temp water as and when you need it and serve at room temp

This way you don't need to heat the bottle but the milk doesn't go off

she does not like room temp bottles, just spits them out :(

I didnt think you could add formula to room temp water or it wouldnt dissolve aswell? I may be wrong. xx

Or only use 2/3 of the water when you make the bottles up (but all the powder) and store in fridge. When needed - boil kettle and top up to required amount with the fresh boiled water and it won't be cold/will be hotter than room temp x

powder is supposed to be added to water over 70 degrees as the formula isnt sterile and needs to br strilised by the water before LO drinks it

This is what I was told by mws/hvs when DD was born ( shes nearly 3) sorry if its misinfo now!

That is true. However, with this method, the idea is that lo drinks the feed straight away and so there is no time for bacteria to multiply
