I'm just a little curious to know whether my LOs school is unique in their ways or if it's generally how it is now.

Their school midday supervisors are made up entirely of parents (and 2 grandparents) who have children currently at their school.

This makes for serious bias on the playground in how children are being treated. Some of the children who have parents working as midday supervisors hurt other children and receive no punishments and one or two tell tales to their parents of lies to get other children that haven't done anything wrong in trouble and because it is their child it's taken at face value as truth and they act on it by punishing the targeted children who have done nothing wrong.

When I was at school there was 1 parent working as a midday supervisor. This was obviously MANY years ago though so things may have changed, but it just feels like the school intentionally target parents. Whenever there's a vacancy they send a text to parents asking us to apply.

Is this the same in other school or is it just ours? TIA

Ours is the same although you don't look after your children.

I a teacher and have never heard of parents supervising play times. The norm in all the schools I've worked in is that the classroom assistants get an earlier lunch in order to allow them to supervise break times. The school after all still have a duty of care at these times so its appropriate that employees are present.

There is a couple of parents that supervise lunchtime, however that is only because they are employed as Teaching Assistants at the School.

At lunchtime, there are Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Dinner Ladies who supervise the playgrounds.

I've never heard of that and I work in schools.

We have some parents as dinner ladies however they are not allowed to work in the same class or department as their child so there isn't that issue in the playground.

Never heard of this. At Ds's school the class teacher supervises the younger children's meal part of lunch time and then the learning assistants take over for tooth brushing and playground cover. At my nieces school the primary 7's supervise the tooth brushing and the learning assistants are in the playground.

They brush their teeth at school? Never heard of that before!

It's interesting hearing how things are done elsewhere, I'd assumed everywhere did the tooth brushing after lunch. As far as I understand it they continue with it until primary three.
