I hate supply dips! It's impossible not to stress about them, especially if you make just enough milk and not more than enough (or in my case not enough). Clogs creep up on me, too. I don't feel a thing until well after the dip and only make the connection after I realize I've got a rock on my chest or suddenly bump into a painful spot. I'm not sure how far pp you are, but have you had your first period or might you be coming up on one? From what I've read it's common to have a dip in supply right before AF (and maybe during AF?). I've also read taking calcium/magnesium supplements help during that time of the month.
I'm hoping goat's rue will work for me! Yesterday I ended up with another massive clog, this time on the left side! I'm still taking my antibiotics from the last round of mastitis, so I'm really hoping it will keep infection at bay. This time it was thanks to DD not nursing well while we were on vacation with all of the family around and new surroundings to look at during the day... I've ordered some soy lecithin, which will be here Friday. It seems most of my clogs usually end up being due to milk blisters, though... I'm not sure what I can do about that other than maybe start applying nipple cream after each nursing/pumping session to try to keep the skin soft and hopefully prevent it from repeatedly growing over the same place over and over again. I haven't been using breast pads because I've never leaked, so maybe rubbing/pressing against my bra isn't helping things? Either way, hopefully the lecithin will help prevent clogs inside. The goat's rue brand Mommy Knows Best is running a special on Amazon that gives you a 50% discount on their lactation drink (with fenugreek, blessed thistle, goat's rue, and fennel) when you buy their goat's rue, so I ordered that as well. Maybe the combination will do the trick! I've read that you should not drink any water 15 minutes before or after taking goat's rue and those over 180 lbs should take a higher dose, so I'm going to go with that and see how things go.
A friend gave me her spare Medela PISA that she hasn't used and I used it for the first time this morning. It's stronger on a lower setting than mine was on the highest! I left work with not even quite 4.5 oz yesterday and I have 3.5 oz already from one session, and I haven't even gotten the clog out of my left side yet! I don't even have to use compression the whole time just to get it to get something out of me. There just may be hope yet! The ENT doctor we were referred to still hasn't called me to schedule an appointment to check for a tongue tie, so I'll have to call them today. I didn't want to call and schedule until after the craziness of packing and driving and unpacking for vacation was over.
