I know it's still pretty early in my pregnancy and I probably shouldn't be thinking tooooooo far into it.... Buuuuuuut I'm wondering if I should have a midwife or a doctor.. Tell me what you ladies think and some experiences ! !

I'm guessing your not in the UK? Here you just get referred to a midwife, mine wasn't very good though

Assuming you're in the US, that depends on what kind of care if you want.

If you're looking for low intervention, aiming to try for a natural birth, don't want extra testing, are willing to go overdue, don't want a million ultrasounds, don't believe pregnancy is really much different than being...not pregnant (in regards to what you can do) than a midwife is likely a best fit.

Otherwise, a doctor if you want drugs handed to you at labor, want lots of possible interventions during the pregnancy, etc.

I use a midwife.

(I dont mean doctors are "bad", there are lots of wonderful doctors and Im sure crappy midwives but in my experience the midwives are much more laid back, go with the flow, everything will work out, etc as opposed to worrying and testing over ever little thing in pregnancy like the doctors at the practice).

It's up to you, really.
I personally don't see the difference in level of care between the two. Midwives are more "natural" vs a doctor who could push csections and drugs, etc.

Im in the u.s and I was automatically referred to a midwife. I loved my midwife she was so fantastic. Then found out I was at high risk so I had a high risk midwife and a doctor. That midwife was fantasic as well.

If i had to choose I'd choose a doctor, thats just my opinion.
And its only because with every pregnancy in my entire life I will be high risk. :(

Midwives are definatley more natural and calm than.doctors.
Doctors stick yoh with needles and take up all your blood and do all of these tests. But me personally, I'd prefer a doctor. :)

My midwife was constantly taking my blood :L because I was anaemic, but I was like well taking the blood isn't exactly gonna make that better :L

its up to you really:) but i personally prefer doctors over midwives:) good luck on your choice :)

Personally, we're choosing a doctor. My dad's a doctor himself, and even though his specialty is not obstetrics, he knew quite a handful of people who could follow me through the process. To us, it was rather obvious and there wasn't even a lot of thought put into it. I don't want a natural birth (don't want a c-section either, but I want the epidural), so to me, it was a no-brainer. But it all depends on what you want. If you want to deliver naturally, if you want the epidural, if you want a c-section. How close do you want to be monitored, and how available do you need your doctor/midwife to be (that's very important if you choose to go with a doctor. Some of them are very busy and might not have as much time for you as you might want.). If you want to have a home birth or a hospital birth... all things to be considered. It's a very personal choice, really.

I will also add, if you're looking for a midwife go for a CNM (certified nurse midwife) not a CPM (certified professional midwife).

CNMs have more training, are actually nurses, etc. CPMs are trained only to be midwives, no further medical training.

I have 2 midwives, and have my family doc. to refer to if I get sick (cold, flu, etc..) but I loove my midwives so far! I'm aiming for an all natural birth (no epi., no c-section, no hospital- in a birth center) and am really satisfied so far.

Of course, if something went wrong I would be more than willing to transfer to the hospital to give birth if that meant a healthy delivery for baby and I, but I'm really not a doctor/hospital person in general, so that was my choice :)

It really depends on your personal views and plans/hopes for the delivery. Good luck with everything!
