Hi all, not posted in here before!
Last week i went for a growth scan as was small for dates on fundal height. measured around the 3rd centile for head and just above for abdomen so they asked me to come back today to check amniotic fluid levels and a doppler scan for placenta, not growth scan as a week is not enough. Anyway both fluid and placenta perfect at todays scans.
To cut a long story short i was unhappy with the initial recommendations from the obs team at hospital last week, so saw my midwife on thursday and she intervened. She ensured my follow up from todays scan was seeing the main clinic midwife at hospital. She was happy with the results as they obviously show baby is fine, placenta working etc. She wasn't too worried with the results of size, so went to talk to consultant to say i want a natural birth etc and no more interventions, no talk of inductions etc but possibly another growth scan.
Consultant came back out- the most patronizing cow i have ever met. Said her recommendation was inducing between 39 and 40 weeks with a monitored labour meaning no midwife led unit for me, It went back and forth and back and forth with everyone arguing. She couldn't really give a reason as to why a monitored labour - just that if babys smaller than average then might get distressed. At the last scan at 36+5 baby was estimated 5lb. My mums full term and overdue babies have all been between 6lb and 6lb 10oz so small babies in family. Then she didnt really say what next, whether another growth scan, or more doppler scans etc, and said I have to decide. She just sort of made it sound come back for induction time - nothing in between - so she cant be very concerned.
Has anyone else been in this midwife v consultant battle? The midwife said after it won't matter what further scans i had the consultant will not budge from her opinion now. I don't know what to do now, i see my own midwife this thursday so will seek advice from her, as she will have spoken to the midwife at hospital before i see her. I also do not like how the consultant has written up this in my notes. So even if i go into labour naturally she may have effected my birthing options.
I do obviously have the best interests of my baby at heart and would not put her at risk - at the moment nothing is wrong so please i do not want anyone to think i'm taking risks here - at the moment they aren't even talking about more scans.
Just wondered if anyone had any advice, and thank you for reading such a long post!! xx
