How much milk does your LO consume in a day (on average)
Ruby hasn't been eating that much over the past 2wks or so, she used to have a 7oz bottle evry 4hrs approx now i'm lucky if she drinks more than 4oz every 4hrs+. Is this normal should i be worried? She is a big baby so i thought she'd be needing alot more milk to fill her up. I've even been considering giving her a small amount of baby porridge after her tea time bottle. She used to be a really good feeder just don't know why she's changed so much......

Hi hun. The max Omar went for was 28 oz at 4 mnths, & only for few days. His average was 20-24 oz (4 bottles only), & at 5 mnths it started to drop more . He's also a big baby & I was worried at 1st, but his Dr. was never concerned as his weight gain is not affected. He's still not a big eater or drinker. xx

Does she otherwise seem content and like herself? Have you weighed her since she started eating less, is she still gaining well? I know sometimes they go off their milk a bit when they're teething, could that be it?

Maya has 9oz when she wakes up, two 7-8oz bottles during the day and another 9oz before bed. She's always had a big appetite and she's a big girl too.

Yes her behaviour's exactly the same although she has started waking more often in the night, she is showing no real signs of teething apart from manically chewing everything in sight and dribbling like mad but she's been doing this since about 10wks, she has no rash red cheeks or sore bum and she's never crying in pain. Maybe a tooth will pop up in the next few weeks and that will be the answer! I hope so xx

ollie done that outta the blue the other week i was worried because he had just been ill so i wanted to keep his fluids up so for a few days i basically made smaller bottles like only 5oz every 3 hours and even if he only took a few oz it added up the good thing was it only lasted maybe 2 or 3 days

now he takes four 9oz bottles drains his morning and 4oclock bottle and is a little fussy over the other two usually he drinks 7oz from them

hopefully its only a temporary thing xx

olivia was similar, she went from sleeping through and taking plenty of milk to waking twice in the night and not taking her bottles very well, she went from about 35oz a day down to under 20oz so it was a big drop. i spoke to my HV about weaning ollie a little bit early and she said it would be ok so for the past couple of weeks, ollie has been having some baby porridge at about 11am each day. she takes it really well, is having more milk again and seems alot happier in herself.
Im not saying you should rush to wean your LO but it if you are concerned, it might be worth speaking to your HV x

Olivia's starting doing this aswell. She was on 7oz every 3 an a half - 4 hours dead and now she's only taking 4oz every 4 hours. She also used to sleep 11-8 but is now sleeping 11-5.30/6. I did consider adding a little rice to her daily routine but the 1 time I tried she was throwing up all day. Not alot but still enough for me to hold off a little longer. Maybe it's just an age thing?

Well last night she had her tea time bottle and drank 5oz so i gave her a lil bit of baby porridge afterwards and then after her bath at 7.30 she drank 7oz (she always drinks at least this much after her bath) And then she woke up at 6.40....she slept all the way through YAY she's only done this about 6times in 19wks.
She has just had a bottle and drank 7oz, it's funny how it's took me over 2wks to ask for advice and as soon as i ask it looks like she's getting back to normal it's always the way ha
xx

Sophie normally has 7oz x 5 times a day. Sometimes on her last bottle, she barely drinks any and just falls asleep, it amazes me that she still doesnt wake during the night hungry!!

How did Ruby go with the porridge?

That sounds fine to me. Big babies don't necessarily need more to fill them up. My baby (also Ruby) was very high up on the weight charts until about 5 months then dropped her milk intake a fair bit. She was just levelling off after a period of rapid growth. Weaning is likely to make her drink less and fill her up for fewer calories so I personally wouldn't advise that.

glad she seems to be getting back to normal...do you think you'll continue with the baby porridge

i tried Ollie with some the other day and he had no clue what to do with it lol so i think ive still got a wee while to go before he's ready xx

She LOVED it she took to it straight away, she was smiling her little head off after the 3rd spoon she really liked the taste!

I gave her cow & gate fruity porridge. I'm going to give her abit each day now after her tea time bottle, not planning on giving her anyhting else though til she's a little bit older just gonna let her get used to this 1st xx

She took to it straight away so i guess she was ready to try it... the pic below was after her 2nd spoon, i think you can see she's trying to work out what it is lol, after that though she was smiling when i was moving the spoon towards her mouth it was so cute ha. I'd just keep trying him few days or so eventually he will get onto what it is and what he needs to do xx

hey terri

Isaac has only been having between 20-28oz a day for the past 6 weeks. He went from 75%ile to 50%ile but they are happy with that.

Today he has had:

5oz @ 07.30
5oz @ 10.00

Keep a diary as you may find that over the course of the week she is catching up.

Nicola xx

ps, how cute is Ruby xx

Hiya Nicola

Ruby has been on 91st percentile since birth, she weighed 16lb 80z when she had her 3rd set of needles so she's always been a big girl. That's why i was worried about her milk intake as i didn't know how she could carry on thriving if she was drinking so little!
She drank 7oz 8.30 this morning so hopefully she will take as much in her next feed in a minute xxx

Thanks isaac is so gorgeous i love your profile pic x

Hi Hun, my daughter was born on 23 April and she has exactly what you Ruby is having now.. she has 4oz (sometimes 5oz) feed every 3-4 hours.
I express my milk and give it to her and at one time i can express 4-5oz so that how much she needs and takes.

When she was born it was only about 3oz and i was really worried that it was not enough compared to other babies/mums on here!! but she is fine..and steadily building up.

I wouldnt be worried my lo is a chubby healthy little thing and has always fed little and often.

xx
