My story is a bit everywhere, please bare with me.

After three week's of exclusively breastfeeding after DDs birth, and visiting the docs every week because baby was crying constantly and two doctors telling me everything was fine, it was determined DD has a tongue tie and is unable to latch on correctly. She was not gaining weight and my nipples were trash. I screamed in agony everytime she fed. Horrible pain.

The lactation consultant said odds are insurance won't cover the laser procedure that we have to travel 200+miles to have done because even though we are in the largest town in Montana, no one yet is able to do the procedure here. We are having bad financial issues right now and insurance is expensive and bad. It covered a whole $66 of my epidural, being that it's "elective".

Babe is now 6 weeks and I am only pumping, returning to work. She has also been recieving formula supplement. I am only pumping maybe 2oz at a time, when I have a chance to pump every two hours. Let's be honest, I've had to wait 6 hours many times. Our girl started to suffer from pain from reflux two weeks ago and we just got antacid for her. She is very fussy and wants to be held constantly. Pumping has been put on the back - burner. I've tried fenugreek, but I've broken out on a rash around the top of my breasts since starting it.

I am exhausted and unhappy about our situation. Anyone have advice or am I just doomed to soon having a formula baby?

My daughter was tongue tied and they just did the procedure in the Ear nose and throat doctors office.... they basically just snipped it... is that not an option? Maybe for different tongue ties they need to use a laser? I really hope it gets better for you. I would cry every time I fed my baby and my baby was sooo fussy while breast feeding until it was snipped.

As far as pumping goes you could try supplements or lactation tea to boost milk supply? I pump in the morning just to freeze some and the morning is when usually you have the most milk. Drink lots and lots of water. Make sure you are using the right size flanges with your pump.

Also if you have one available go see a lactation consultant or join a breast feeding group if it's an option for you!!

I really hope it works out for you !! Good luck !

I would double check to see if they will accept your insurance or not. Sometimes it is dentists that do the procedure, and then it's not necessarily covered. But look for an ears/nose/throat specialist in your network and they might accept your insurance after all.

It's so difficult to have a baby with latch issues. I feel for you.

According to the lactation specialist at the clinic, only laser is an option and only available in the one city. She didn't explain and I didn't ask for more information. I will on our next visit, her two month is coming up.

I have tried supplements etc. If it worked, it was a small amount. :/

The flanges are good. As for the water, I am trying. With her being so fussy and hungry, it's been far more difficult to stay hydrated then it was when I was just pregnant.

As I said, I have seen a lactation specialist. She told me I have to supplement with formula. I also got donated milk, which has helped because the formula hasn't sat well with DD.

I will try.
