Hi Ladies

My daughter was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy at 6 weeks when I started to notice streaks of blood in her stool. I cut out all dairy about four days ago and yesterday her diapers we MUCH better, almost normal infact.

Today, it seems as if we've taken a massive step back and there is blood in her stool again. I was sure that I hadn't had anything with dairy in it, I've been very careful about reading all of the ingredients in everything.

My doctors aren't interested in seeing her, they just want me to wait it out.

What I'm wondering is, did anyone else have this happen? I may have slipped up somewhere but I've been SO careful I'm not sure where that could have been. Is it possible that something else that I've been eating has been bothering her as well?

Advice please? I don't want to give up breastfeeding but at this point I feel as if I've poisioning my daughter!

Have you been avoiding things like whey? Here is a link that has other names of dairy ingredients: https://foodallergies.about.com/od/dairy/qt/milkfreediet.htm

Don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing the best for your baby and it is much better than formula. Most babies with milk protein (casein) intolerance also have soy allergies and the only formula options are the ones that are hydrolysed protein that can sometimes be OK, but can also still effect a lot of babies.

Also, there could be a chance it is something else not related to what you are eating...

Also, it takes about 2 weeks for all traces of dairy to exit your system, and another 2 weeks for it to leave your baby's. I quit dairy around 3 weeks ago, and my son's eczema is still there, just not as bad. It improved rapidly within the first 72hrs, and was a gradual improvement since then.

They've done a lot of physical checks on her so they're sure that it's this. I was just surpised to see it back again. We ate out the other day so that might be it.

Alternatively it could be that these things do sometimes recur a bit until the milk protein is completely out of both of your systems. Another thing is the blood in the stool is caused by irritation to the inner surface of the lower bowel which causes tiny fissures, if these aren't yet completely healed then an explosive bowel movement can cause them to bleed again a bit. I would wait 2-3 weeks and hopefully by then a huge improvement will be noticeable. Xx

Quick question. My son had dry patches, which we originally thought were from cradle cap, but he has them on his brow, nose, cheeks, and ears too. And he also has redness on his face, neck, and back. It looks like heat rash, but it's not from heat! Just wondering if this could possibly be eczema or maybe a milk allergy? Is this worth seeing the doctor early? (He has an appointment in two weeks). Thank you. Sorry to divert to anouther question within a thread >_<

Yup, this is exactly what my little boy had. Like I said, started clearing up within 72hrs of me cutting out dairy completely, and then some 1% hydrocortisone and E45 creams from the GP did the rest!

Wow, I'm going to definitely try this then, cos NOTHING has helped- I even tried hydrocortisone .5 and it only seems to help for a day, and I don't want to use it too much cos its a steroid :\ Thank you so much!!
