So I was planning to get the Mirena at my 6-week checkup... But in my LLL book, it says that it can reduce milk supply in the first six months PP! I'm definitely reconsidering my choice now. I probably won't do the copper IUD because it is known to make periods more painful..I'll most likely wait until our baby is six months and stick with the Mirena. Has anyone had experience with this? I can't believe my midwife didn't say anything when I asked about Mirena! :growlmad:

I got Mirena 8 weeks PP and had no supply issues at all. But you will be spotting nonstop for 6 months I hear.

I had it also at 8 weeks. Have been exclusively breastfeeding for 5 months now with no issues with my supply

^^ had no problems with spotting either. All has been fine. Not saying this will be same for everyone though

I went on the mini pill (same hormone as the Marina coil) and it definitely affected my supply I took it from when baby was 8-15weeks. In this time he put on less than a lb and dropped 3 centiles in his book! It took me 3 weeks to get my supply back and he is now gaining normally. I went to the hv a couple of times during this period both times she assured me it couldn't be the pill! The percentage of woman that it effects is very small, but you like me could b part of that percentage. I really wouldn't recommend it :(. If you really want it then maybe try the mini pill first as it is easy to stop taking a pill to so easy to have the coil removed. Then if after a month or so you find he pill is agreeing with get the coil fitted then? I've had the coper coil before and it did make my period very heavy and painfull. Had it fitted again cople of weeks ago but periods haven't returned yet xl

I had mine put in at 7 weeks. I got my period a week later, but them it went away again until 6 months, and ocassional spotting. There were no issues with my supply. 10 months and still going strong!

I had my Mirena put in at about 8 weeks. I was EBF and never noticed any drop in supply. We EBF'd for 6 months and are still BF now at almost 17 months.
As for Mirena - never had any spotting or issues at all. In fact, still haven't had a period!

That's a good idea. I will ask about the mini pill---that's progesterone only right? Just like Mirena. Much easier to stop a pill than to remove an IUD--which btw costs $500 here. :-( Ouch.

$500 ouch! Im in the uk and its free. In regards to the pill yes it is progesterone only same as the mirena only difference is the mini pill goes into your blood stream and the coil the hormones go straight into you cervix. If you do get on with it, the mirena coil is really good I had one in for 4 years prior to having my son and after a few mons my periods stopped completely! :))

I got a Mirena at 10 weeks PP and am still BF at 17 months with no problem with supply. The mini pill must be taken within a hour window each day which was way too much effort, so I went with something I didnt have to remember, and I didnt want another pregnancy for a few years.
