Mixed feeding - what is the best formula to use for windy baby?

Hi

My baby is 9 weeks old and I bf the majority of feeds, however she gets extremely windy and therefore rarely empties the breast taking a full feed and usually wants to latch on again several times before her next feed.

I started giving a formula feed at night to try to get some sleep however it takes so long to get a reasonable amount of wind up (with mixed success) so that she is comfortable enough to sleep through the gripes. By the time she is winded it is not long after she wants feeding and sometimes the wind is still there and wakes her, defeating the object of the formula feed. I was hoping to give her a midday formula bottle too to try and get us into some kind of routine (at present we have none and some days I rarely get dressed never mind get out of the house!) but don't want to do this if it will cause her more pain.

We were originally using Aptimal comfort then tried soya milk, however this has made no difference. She is on Colief, Gaviscon and domperidone,

Will changing back to Aptimal make her belly bad?

Any advice is appreciated

Many thanks x

I wouldn't have thought it would cause big problems to switch back, but you might find her nappies are a bit grim for a little while (I imagine they were before?) - they tend to be when you're switching.

Have you tried gripe water or infacol? Infacol you give before every feed, and it gradually builts up in their system - if it is going to work you should see some improvement by a week or so. Gripe water is given after a feed, and can be used as a one-off. It can be a bit more difficult to get into a baby though because it's very thin - and they usually either love it or hate it! Woodward's is the brand my friends have had most success with if you want to try it.

I was told not to use Infacol aswell as colief but will give the gripe water a try, thanks

Sam is really windy and we have been using infacol for about four days - you can REALLY notice the difference he is like a little wind machine now and it comes out both ends xxx
