does anyone mix feed? my midwife has said to give dd a bottle of formula to top her up sometimes as she is feeding on me all the time and still doesnt seem to be getting enough even when i express its not satisfying her.

just wondered if anyone did this and how you got on.

No I never did, he never had formula, my thought is the more they nurse they more your body will make. If you don't allow them to finish on you your body doesn't get the signal to make more. So we never supplemented, they always went through times of seemingly eating non stop but it was just a growth spurt and my supply would go up within a ouple days and they were always fine

Hi. No I haven't. Was tempted in the 'early days' as I was worried I wasn't producing enough milk, but as mummyof3 says, the best thing to do is keep on feeding as it will make your body produce more. We also used to give Poppy a bottle of expressed milk before bed but I would also finish her off with breastfeed so it didn't affect my supply.

Do what you think is best for you but a lot of the girls on here seem to regret ever mix feeding as it messes up your supply so much. Good luck xx

thinks everyone. i think ill not bother because i dont want my milk to dry up!

For the first couple of months all babies do is feed all the time from you - it's totally normal.

I did. It wasn't my ideal choice but my baby was losing and losing weight, even though he was feeding plenty. I tried everything to get my supply up but in the end I had to go with the medical advice and top him up with formula. I still breastfed and expressed and did all the things to increase supply.

I would speak to the midwife about it and see is she recommending formula for convenience to give you a rest OR because the baby needs more than you have at the min and take it from there.

I do not regret mix feeding. I do wish I had been able to exclusively bf. In the end make the most of what you have got and if you give a bottle, get somebody else to do it and you take a rest cos u deserve it!
