Just a quick query ladies!

My friend has a 2 week old little boy who is 5lb 12oz and she is really struggling with breast feeding and all that new motherhood brings. He had a bit of a rough arrival into the world and had to have a feeding tube for a few days so she has done well to get him breast feeding at all. I keep telling her to rest, get lots of skin to skin, plenty feeding time etc to encourage her milk supply. However has has lots of visitors and family coming to see her every day and feels she can't spend the whole time in bed in her PJs and wants to see everyone and get out and about a little bit with baby in pram. She has also had some previous problems with depression and has had to reduce her dose of anti-depressants to allow for breast feeding and she has said she is very concerned about post-natal depression.

I would like to suggest she tries babywearing to allow her to be a bit more up and about but with more baby bonding time and hopefully to help with some discrete breast feeding (she is still a bit self conscious about feeding in public)

I only wore my son for a little while and once he was bigger so I am no expert and don't want to get it wrong but the Moby wrap I have says that you can only use it from 8lb. Is this right - if she still follows the guidelines for safe carrying (airway protection etc) could she carry him now while he is under 6lb? He has only just regained his birth weight after 2 weeks so I think he could take a while to reach 8lb!

Thanks for any advice x

Stretchy wraps can be used for Preemies. The Moby is a stretchy wrap, but if it says 8lbs I wouldn't use it.

I have the Boba Wrap. It specifically says it is safe for preemies and can be used from "birth", no minimum weight limit. I wore LO in it at 5-6lbs.

I started using the Boba 3g (SSC) when he got to 7lbs and thought I would never use the wrap again...but turns out I love the stretchy wrap. I just found some instructions for how to nurse in it! It's just hard to put on when out and about. But if you put it on in the comfort of your home, it is super comfortable and works great for tiny babies.

It's safe to use, they just have to put a weight limit for legal reasons

A stretchy is a stretchy really, there's no reason a Boba would be safe from birth and a Moby wouldn't. I'd tell her to go for it.

Logically, no. But I don't like using things that say not to use them for safety reasons, it just weirds me out.

Rachel_C is right, I'm just a weirdo!

Yah it would be fine to use as long as she follows safe babywearing (look up the TICKS guidelines).

Thank you all so much I don't want to give her the wrap to try then not be able to reassure her that its safe. Just wish I could use the wrap to tie her into her bed to rest!
