Oy, anyone else dealing with mood and behavior issues? I scheduled a counseling appointment and I got Violet back on Vitamin D. I had had her off of it as I thought she'd get enough Vitamin D through the sun during the summer. I want to look into other vitamin supplements and dietary aspects to mood. Have any of you seen an improvement in mood along with any particular supplement or dietary change? I'm not sure where things will go with a counselor, but she is needing more than what she's getting currently.

Maybe fish oil pills could be something worth trying.

With Maria I've found it's generally the basic things that affect her mood - if she's not getting enough sleep, and not eating regularly enough (which tends to go out of the window a lot during the holidays) then she gets mood issues. Also too much tv/games affects too. So when she starts to get like that we cut right back, or completely, screen time and look at how much she is sleeping and what and when she is eating.

Well now that she's back on Vitamin D, it's like flipping a switch... We also just got a vitamin B pill and are being more strict about food and are going to monitor her screen time more. Not sure counseling would be worthwhile, but we have some time before the appointment to cancel if we change our minds.

I think it's always worth giving counselling a go, even just an initial appointment, because children sometimes open up more to a stranger than to their parents.

Yeah, we are on vacation now, so things are off, but I think the appointment would be a good idea. Tantrums are supposed to decrease with age and they are not. She was actually a rather easy toddler! At this point she does seem to have mood issues that go beyond her peers. My marriage has also been rocky which I am sure does not help.

Yes, my little boy is experiencing some behavioural problems. I have tried both magnesium and omega 3 supplements without success. I have spoken to my G.P who has said he will do a referral to CAMHS but he will most likely not be seen because he isn't severe enough. :(

I don't know what CAMHS is, but always good to deal with these things before the problem gets too big...

It's the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. I was thinking the same as you Sarah but not sure what I am going to do now. I'll be damned if I leave him to get worse just so they will consider seeing him. :nope:

When I called to ask her pediatrician about it, they immediately put me through to make an appointment with a counselor. From there, they will determine the level of need.

Well I know things are off being on vacation and all, but her aggression in her tantrums is increasing...

I can only see a paediatrician if they accept my referral. Looking like private counselling is my only option now.

Yep in some areas they are turning away adolescents with suicidal thoughts because they are too stretched with those who have already tried to commit suicide!!!!

Well, not much happened at the appointment and Violet is mostly doing OK. She did have a meltdown yesterday at the store, but generally she's been pretty good, so there wasn't much to talk about... But if (when) things swing back the other way, we can give the counselor a call.
