Mooosive earthquake

How are you doing? Our power and internet came back on around 11am (though across the street never lost it).
I was in a 7.1 earthquake in 1989 and that one was way worse than this. I guessed a 6 before I heard the news.

We got our power back about 10.30 this morning!

Oh you lucky devils, our power was out until about an hour ago! Have you got water?

God it frightened me, I have never ever got out of bed and out of the house that fast before. We were about 5km from the epicentre and our house shook like a proverbial leaf.

The aftershocks all day have been sending me mad, I'm sure jumping every time one hits is not healthy and I ended up call my m/w just to check the BH and cramping was just stress related.

No more aftershocks please ...... *toddles off ignoring the advice on the radio that we should expect at least another magnitude 6 shock*

Gah! I have water but is it even safe to drink? So torn between dehydration and total illness!

i think its safe to drink. Well i've been drinking it! Still getting aftershocks

We do have water, though the cold tap has lots of air in it and comes out white. I've been boiling it. Think that's recommended anyhow.
It's so surreal. Our neighborhood has one chimney down and that's it. Can't believe some of the stuff I've seen from St. Albans and CBD! We're only 4-10km from some of the really bad damage.

Loads of hugs ladies, was watching on the news and its looks like WWWIII broke out.

V xxxx

I'm in riccarton, we didnt get too much damage but our house is real old and shakes and the windows rattle when trucks go past so u can imagine how loud it was!! I hope you didnt get much dange hun. Are you in chch?

Our candle stick fell over. Couldn't believe it when I saw the damage in some places. I live 2 blocks from the CBD on Fitsgerald Ave. Crazy !

Aftershock ah

I just heard we are meant to be boiling the water befor we drink it. I hope we don't get the big one meant to be at about between 11-3.30! Oooh u dont live far away from me!

hope everyone is all ok, im still trying to get hold of my best friend but she isnt replying to messages.
I cant actualy remember if she is north or south though (sifting through paperwork looking for her address)
What area got it worst as there is family scattered all over.

Only Chirstchuch in the South Island got it bad. Only two people were seriously inured, two middle aged men and no one was killed

So don't panic, they're probably okay just without Power

shes in Blenheim, I still havnt spoken to her but I saw on her sisters husbands FB that he says the family is all ok so that puts my mind at rest.
I wouldnt be so worried if it wasnt for the fact I had a dream about her night before last and that normaly only happens when somthings going on with her, like when she found out she was pregnant I had a dream about it and phoned her up (no one other then her and her husband knew) same thing when she had her little boy.
We share the same birthday and where very close before she moved back to NZ but at least I get to see her at christmas, first time in 5 years :)

Haha we're in Riccarton too. That seems to be the best place to have been.
At first we thought it was a truck too.

And to Smokey, Blenheim the town is pretty far away (I live on Blenheim road in Christchurch though and you can't even tell there was an earthquake here there is so little damage).

Our poor post box survived the earthquake but got taken out by the gale force winds last night

Glad to hear that all the ladies living in Christchurch are doing ok. The pictures on the news are just shocking. Just make sure you are all boiling your water before using it for anything. There are now cases of gastro bugs putting people in hospital etc. :hugs:

Glad all you ladies are ok :) I have a close friend in NZ but she lives on the North island.. she is so scared though :(
