More than 8-9oz in one sitting, how do you do it?

Hi everyone,

I know you can't over-feed a baby, especially one so young, but Edward is taking it to extremes! He is starting to really settle down now into a really nice routine, but he has today managed 44oz over the space of 12 hours!

I know this is what he needs and I'm not worried about the amount (he was 10lb14 at birth and currently weighs somewhere around 14.5lbs) but my worry is that soon he's going to need 9+oz per feed soon as he's regularly draining 8oz but my bottles don't fit anymore in (boots own). I have some MAM anti colic which are pretty big and would probably take 10oz (9oz on the scale but a big gap up to the neck) in one go, but the reason we don't use them is because they leaked like crazy! Does anyone have a LO that takes more than 8-9oz in one go? How do you do feeding times? Do you have larger bottles or do you use 2?

I know I should probably consider hungry baby milk but it didn't agree with Earl, and I'm not a fan of it, so would rather take the hit for at least until he's a bit older and continue to give him 1st milk. May try it at 3-4 months to try to keep him off solids if necessary. He is on SMA 1.

oOH Wow! I am jealous!!! Your little man is certainly guzzling so let him! :O) I am sure in the olden days they used to make 10oz bottles... I haven't seen any around but ocassionally see the odd 10oz bottle in the chemist.... I would say give him more but with the slower teat unless he gets really frustrated and then he maybe ready for a 2 teat...

TBH I wish my LO was a guzzler like your Edward! She does about 44oz over 3 days!

You sure do have a guzzler bless him! Jayden always drunk lots from early on, i think he regularly totalled over 60oz for weeks on end, he never seemed full! xx

Sarah - Yes he's already on Medium flow teats but I'm holding off the fast flows as he's happy (even though it takes half an hour a time lol).

HellBunny - Thanks. I'll keep and eye out for NUK ones. Earl was a big eater too so I'm used to it. He never went over 7oz though, although he used to eat every 2-2.5 hours. His record is 56oz a day for a sustained period with the odd 63oz day lol. I think Edward has it in his sights lol.

as pp said, nuk are definately 10 oz and u can get them in most boots x

Thanks both - I think the Avent ones fit the boots teats he's used to so may have to invest as and when necessary.
