My blood sugars are always high after breakfast, no matter what combination of food I have. Diabetic midwife advised me to cut out fruit with breakfast and it hasn't made any difference.
Any ideas what to have please. They're thinking of starting me on treatment on Friday, so I'm panicking now :nope:
Thanks :flower:

Sorry I have no advice and Ihave GD too but I am on insulin for mine but my sugars are also high after brekkie no matter what I eat. For example I am on 6 units during the day and after a small bowl of rice krispies my sugars were 9.8 ??????

I would be also interested to hear any ideas for brekkie that people might have

Cut out cereal all together. I'm a type 1 diabetic and really struggle to cope with my morning sugars. I have to take 44 units of insulin just to keep my sugars at 7. Oats are better than anything else. If i were you try having scrambled eggs with bacon?

Have a look at GI diets as they were designed for diabetics. Hope this helps hun.

xxx

Thanks :flower: any type of cereal even oats makes it high (over 9 after oats yesterday).
I'll give the eggs and bacon a go though (sounds nice for a change)

Have you researched the Dawn Phenomenon? Sometimes they suggest having a small snack in the middle of the night to help with blood sugars. Mine never got high enough consistantly to need insulin, thankfully though.

:hugs:

I have been eating an egg, 2 sausages, and one piece of low carb bread. My numbers are in the low 80's. If I try to eat any kind of cereal it spikes.

I also have a protein snack right before bed. You shouldn't go more than 10 hours without eating something to help stabilize the sugars.

Thanks - I haven't been having an evening snack in case it makes my blood sugar high in the morning. I'm still new to all this though. Off to see the Consultant again in the morning.

Thanks for your help. I'm just off to have a look at the Dawn phenomenon now. :hugs:

V new to the whole GD thing but granary toast seems to keep my morning sugars within limits. xx

Ive tried different breads, but they all give me high results. I've read somewhere about rye? bread. I haven't tried that one yet.

Hi :) i'm also struggling, i found out a few days ago i have GD, i should of found out 5 weeks ago but the hospital didn't contact us with the results :(
I had a small amount of porridge yesterday and my sugars were 8.6, this morning i had a small piece of toast and it was 7.2.. i really don't know what to eat? I've barely eaten today, the things they reccommend eg shredded wheat, granary bread etc all send my sugars soaring.

Hope you find something soon which keeps them stable x

Hi Sarah (I'm Sarah as well)

Yes I have the same. Been to see the Diabetologist today and he told me to have bacon and egg (which was suggested to me by the ladies on here).

Fortunately he's decided I can try another week sorting out my diet before I have any treatment :happydance: .

Hope you sort yours out too. :hugs:

Thanks for that :) i think i'll try scrambled eggs tomorrow then let you know what the outcome is. I had pasta for tea and i'm at 5.7 now, funny how eating a big meal like that can make blood sugar lower than just a small piece of toast.. its baffling! Glad you have another week before they start you on treatment, i've got til tuesday :( hopefully things will pick up :D x

I find I can eat Baked Potatoes and Pasta and get low readings, but wholemeal toast or porridge or cereal makes it high. Weird isn't it. I'm finding it quite interesting though
:hugs: good luck

Me too, as thats what i've been advised to eat, its strange! I only wish i'd of known a few weeks ago, as it takes a while to adjust to different foods. I'm really missing my chocolate though :( x

I know what you mean. I should have been doing this weeks ago as well
Fortunately I don't really have a sweet tooth, so not missing chocolate. Wonder if the dark chocolate would be ok for you?

Whats your BM before breakfast? It could of started off high because you have gone so long without food during the night.

Also how soon after breakfast are you taking them? You shouldent realy take them within 2 hours of eating as it will spike and then stable out again and its the satable result you need.

hi Lozzy - they're ok in the morning and then get high after having something to eat. I don't have a snack before I go to bed though.
I'm in the UK and we have to check 1 hour after eating a meal (for GD). My mum has Type 2 diabetes and doesn't have to check for 2 hours after a meal. I'm not sure why the difference. I'll have to ask when I go Friday

I might treat myself to a piece of chocolate in a few days, once i have gotten to grips with what foods are okay/not okay :) i'm worried its my fault ive got GD, in my 1st + 2nd tri i drank a heck of alot of lucozade, chocolate etc to deal with morning sickness, and i really regret that now. The past 2 days my morning sugar level has been 5.2, this morning after 2 weetabix it was 11.1, so i really must try scrambled eggs or something tomorrow, otherwise i think they'll be putting me on insulin, :( x
