Moving out of parents home and into home with OH?

I'm 18 and moving out of parent's home. That's all fine and dandy I have a good job that will pay rent and bills so i'm okay there.
But me and OH only have like 2 weeks to find a place and secure it which seems crazy to me. OH (he's 25) got kicked out of his old house through no fault of his own and recently lost his job. He has no savings for deposit but hopefully the council can help us with that.
Just wondering has anyone else been in the same situation? It's so stressful and OH is like we need to find place like today blah blah blah. I know he's right but there's only so many homes to rent here it's not like they spring up everyday.
Does anyone have any tips on renting homes? As obviously i'm completely new to this!

if you are in the uk, try local new papers, shops windows etc in the area you want to live.
speak to the CAB or job centre about whether qualify for help with the deposit. If you earn a good wage you may not get anything, but worth a try
Councils have huge waiting lists for their properties.

A lot of letting agents do checks which are gonna take a while to get back.

I am guessing you are getting your deposit from a council scheme? Anything from Government tends to take ages cos of paper work.

If you are pregnant and present yourself as homeless the council will have a duty to find you immediate temporary accommodation and give you priority on bidding for council property. https://england.shelter.org.uk/ has info on your rights if you declare yourself homeless. The problem is that unless your parents kick you out you are not homeless. Your partner as a single male is not vulnerable and would only get this kind of help as your partner. And if you did get somewhere emergency temporary property chances are it is not gonna be nice. And all of the above may differ slightly from area to area.

can he not stay with you and your parents (or elsewhere) for a while to buy you guys a bit more time? you dont wanna end up somewhere just becasue its all you could find in a hurry x
