My lil brother is a quadriplegic, and as such gets a lot of infections. He'd been on a good run avoiding UTIs, but since going to college this past summer he's had one run in after another. Just recently he was diagnosed with potential MRSA bladder infection/colonization.

He's on his way back into town to stay with my mom and potentially go to our local hospital, and I'm torn between wanting to go visit him, and avoiding any potential contact with MRSA.

My toddler turns 2 this weekend, and we had planned on having everyone over - including my brother. Now I'm wondering if that is a good idea for him and us. He would be devastated if I said he couldn't come over though...

And if he's in the hospital, he would most likely be quarentined and I would not be allowed to visit anyway... I feel very bad because he's had one run in after another with various infections, primarily dating back to visiting me in the hospital when I had DD2 - we believe he picked up a staph infection during that visit, and it took basically the last 2 years for him to be rid of it.

Sorry this is so rambling, I'm just at a loss as to how to show my support and love for my brother, but how to protect myself and LO from MRSA :(

:hugs: My mom has had issues with reoccurring staff infections for the past several years, so I kind of understand your worries. The kids and I have never gotten it from her, and we've always made sure to be extra cautious with hand washing and germ control when we visit. I'm sorry your brother is dealing with MRSA, that can't be easy. I don't have any real advice, just wanted to offer you some .

Thanks moonbeam!

We've decided to postpone the big family celebration for my toddler's bday until my bro is feeling better. She's too young to really know what is going on, and hubby and I figure we'll just take both DDs out to some place fun to have a small celebration. We'll all avoid visiting in the hospital (he'd be in quarentine so only hubby would potentially be allowed in anyway), and he might not even get admitted, so that is a good thing!

Staph is such a common occurrence these days it seems! Hope your mother is doing well too.
