Today at my 36 week appointment i asked the mw to feel and see what position the babay is in and she said he seems to feel head down but the doppler would only pick up the heartbeat up by my rib cage...is it posibble for baby to be head down then if the heartbeat is so high? Anybody else had this experience?

I had ultrasound next week to make sure. And i am not dialated and she said my cervix is very posterier. So i guess hes gonna hang out in there for a while longer lol

She should refer you for a presentation scan if there is any doubt. I just had one and baby was head down. Heart beat was being picked up low down though.

hope that helps :flower:

One mw thought he was head down, heartbeat was very faint where it was picked up down low. Few weeks later I saw another mw, straight away said he was breech and again heartbeat was faint low down so she tried higher up by my ribs and found it straight away and it was very strong. Went for a scan and he is indeed breech. I sort of knew before I saw the second mw as his movements changed, where do you feel the most movements? Mine are all down by my hips.

Yes it's normal. My baby is head down (1/5ths engaged) yet her back goes right up my left side, bum under/inbetween ribcage, legs and feet on the right.. Hb is usually picked up just under my left ribs. Think about it, your almost carrying a full term sized baby.. Baby will be taking up most of the room now :)

sounds like your baby could be breech, my babys heartbeat was persistently by my rib cage and was breech, my midwife initially thought she was head down but scans showed she wasnt and several midwives have said that bums and heads feel similar so it can be difficult to tell which way up the baby is. They told me that the heartbeat should be heard from between the shoulder blades so I would think your baby may possibly be breech. Mine turned to head down last week and her heartbeat is now low down.

He has stopped moving as much i feel pressure from where he streches mostly i guess and i feel a lot of pain in my left rib. I dont know if he doesnt move so much because hes running out of space (im short) 5'2'' . It has been worrying me but we heard heartbeat today so i know hes ok, right? Ahh so much worrying

No, no matter how big baby gets his movements should not decrease.. They change in nature, i.e instead of the usual kick/jab you'll have shuffling etc. But it should never be "less". If you've experienced less movement over the last 24hrs then please give your midwife a call.. Yes hearing the heartbeat is good but it's not always proof that there isn't a problem (or oncoming) - Never take less movement lightly hunni.x
