So thought it was about time i put up my birth story seeing as DS2 is almost a month old already! - its gone SO quickily!

The lead up to the birth was quite stressful due to the mixed information i had been recieving:

I carry anti-E antibodies and had a low papp-a level (pregnancy associated plasma protein A) which basically means the placenta was not working as well as it should be so i was put in the high risk clinic and under consultant care.

35 weeks saw midwife and was told my consultant would book me for induction at 40 weeks as it was dangerous to let me go over due to the papp-a and my antibody

36 + 4 weeks - final growth scan and consultant appointment - was told no need to induce he was happy to let me go over

39 + 5 weeks - saw a different consultant who decided I should be induced and booked me in for my inducion for 2 days later!

Wednesday 26th June 2013:

arrive at hospital at 8:30am and was taken to the induction room - was impressed big flat screen TV, birthing balls, my own little garden and the best of all OH was told he was allowed to stay at all times should the induction take a while.

got freaked out by the crazy cleaner - went to go into the patient toilet in the induction room just as the cleaner came out - he said to me 'be veerrry careful! its reeeeally slippery in there, really really slippery'. then he continued to say 'really slippery' multiple times as he walked out the induction room. I could still hear him saying it after he had disappeared down a coridoor :/

was put on the monitor for a while.

at 11:00 am i had the gel inserted - was the 24 hour one which meant i would need to be put on the monitor for 30 minutes every 6 hours but would not need any exams within the 24 hours unless things started happening.

Midwife asked about my pain relief wishes and i explained if i ended up needing the hormone drip (second method of induction if gel didnt work) i would be wanted an epidural if i progressed on the gel i would decide along the way.

tried to stay mobile took a couple of walks to the cafe bounced on the ball

at 2:30pm I asked to be checked as i thought the gel string had come down and was worried the pessary had fallen out.

I was checked, the pessery was in place but there was absolutely no change what so ever to my cervix.

My mum had DS1 so i texted her saying to bring him up so i could see him as it looked as though it was going to be a while. then sent a message to MIL who was at work waiting for a call to come and take over looking after DS1 so my mum could get to the hospital if things were starting to happen. I told her not to worry to much as it looked like was going to be a while so MIL went into a conference thinking she would not be needed for a while giving a co worker strict instructions to get her asap if she got any phone calls.

an hour later (3:30pm) my mum texted to say they had just got to the hospital could OH meet them at the door so off he went.

within minutes of him leaving the room i suddenly felt and heard a POP! and my waters went. I was alone and so shocked it had happened so quickily i started to panic and pulled the help cord for a midwife. Up until this point i had just been feeling a bit crampy - no actual contractions or anything but as soon as my waters went the contractions started coming fast.

A midwife came in and i explained that my waters had gone and i was contracting - they were close together and very painful. she takes me into the bathroom to help me get off my wet clothes and into my nighty. I am still very panicy at this stage

OH, mum and LO come walking in and were shocked to see that within the time OH had gone to meet them my waters had gone and my contractions were no more then 30 seconds apart.

I give DS1 a quick kiss and my mum takes him off quickily as i was very teary, panicy and was obviously in pain during contractions so was not the best place for him and she needed to get him to MIL quickily so she could get back to me.

I was taken down to labour and delivery and put in a room. at this point the contractions were really intense and i started asking for an epidural. my midwife explained that first they needed to get the monitors on me to check baby and asked if i would like some gas and air to which i replied no... WTF!?!?! why i said no i have no idea as i was not coping with the pain and was just continuously shouting 'i cant do this'!

it took for ever for her to get the monitors on me as she needed me to lay down to get them on but i couldnt cope with the contractions laying down and had to stand up and rock during every contraction and seeing as they were so close together i had to keep getting up.

mum texted OH to say she was having trouble getting hold of MIL. silly me for telling her things wouldnt happen for a while yet! :dohh:

midwife finally got the monitors on me and i was allowed to get back up.

midwife left the room for a moment and i started getting to the stage were i couldnt deal with the pain i called for a midwife and another midwife came in. I asked her for the gas and air and she said she would get my midwife to ok it. few minutes later they both return and i was given the gas and air.

I kept saying i need an epidural i cant do this without one. she said they would sort it soon.

I started taking gas and air. it was now 4:30pm - an hour after my waters had gone and the midwife decided to do an exam. I was 4 cm - the start of established labour. i just could not cope with the pain so i just started inhaling the gas and air as much as i could. I remembered from my first son that gas and air made me totally out of it and was a great distraction from the pain so i kept inhaling and inhaling until i was completely out of it.

at this point i was able to lay on the bed. i had to because i was so out of it i couldnt stand up. during every contraction i tensed up and threw my body all over the place on the bed. they had a hard time keeping me from falling off and it didnt help that my head was against the bed buttons so they bed would be moving all over the place each time :haha:

soon after i had got onto the bed the 2 midwifes became worried about the trace. and called a doctor and the senior midwife. whilst we were waiting i was still begging for an epidural and was told i could have one they just needed to check the baby was ok first.

whilst we were waiting for them to arrive i announced i needed the toilet. one midwife looked at the other and whispered (but i could still hear her) could that be the baby? they were not convinced as it was barely 10 minutes ago i was checked and only 4cm.

I kept shouting i need the toilet. one of the midwifes explained to me it COULD be the baby and if i felt the erge to push to go with it.

on the next contraction i gave a feeble attempt of a push - to petrified to push without my epidural.

the midwife confirmed it was infact the baby and that i had some how reached the pushing stage within around 15 minutes from 4cm!

at this point the midwife tried to take the gas and air off me (they dont allow gas and air during the pushing stage in our hospital) I point blank would not give it up and the midwife knew there was no time to argue with me. she gave me strict instructions not to use the gas and air during contracts but i could suckle on it in between. i agreed.

OH was standing by my head, she grabbed him by the arm and pulled him down to the other end of the bed saying 'come watch your baby being born'

she told me i needed to push on my next contraction. (baring in mind this is all happening within minutes)

next contraction i gave a big push and the midwife announced the head was out. I looked up at OH (still completely out of it but with it enough to be able to see the shock horror look on his face).

next contraction midwife asked 'are you having a contraction'? i replied yes and she asked me why i was not pushing to which i replied i didnt know

next contraction i gave another final push and at 4:48pm Alakae Louis Brewster was born weighing 7lb 10oz.

I had gone from 4cm dialated to him being placed on my chest in 18 minutes! Talk about baby being in a rush.

The senior midwife and doctor arrived just seconds after he was born. followed by my mum just minutes later who was very shocked to see how fast it had all progressed and to see he was already here!

I was checked and had another third degree tear :( (had one with DS1 too) so was taken to theatre to be stitched up.

After i was out of theatre i was taken to recovery and was told they had a private side room for me so i wouldnt be on the ward and OH was allowed to stay the night with me.

I ended up staying in for 2 nights at my request and my mum brought DS1 up to meet his new brother!
