I was due 14th Feb 2009.
I was stood in Morrisons on the 5th Feb at 10:30am, just after returning from the MW. I had had an extra check up as my Blood pressure had rose slightly a few days ago. She told me this could mean Labour was about to start! I was like yeh right i felt like i was going to be Pregnant forever!
Stood paying for my shopping when i felt a trickle of water. I stood still expecting a massive gush followed by all the embarassment! But nothing else! I got home didn't think anything of it at first, maybe i had wet myself or something. I decided to put a pad on and see if there was anymore.
I telephone MW and told her what had happened. She said it sounded like my waters had gone and i should go to Hopsital to get checked out. (Hospital 25 Miles away)
I rang my DH to come and collect me and we set off to be checked. The had me on the Monitor all afternoon - no contractions or pains. However i was laid naked from the waist down waiting for the doc to come and examine me.
I was dying for a wee but DH didn't want me to move off the bed as i was drenched in water down below. He wanted them to see how much water there was.
About an hour later the doctor came in to examine me. They swabbed me and also checked to see if i was dilating at all. The answer i got was "your cervix is very posterior and there is no way this baby is coming this side of 2 weeks!"
I was sent home and told the water was likely me losing control of my bladder!
I was miserable all the way home and all night, everytime i moved or rolled over in bed i was getting wetter and wetter.
The next morning i was booked for a massage so went as planned. The head of the centre where i go was a MW but no longer practising as she is now the breastfeeding Specialist. I told her what had happened and she said it was my hind waters leaking from behind the baby. The fore waters below babies head go with a gush and the hind waters trickle away. She telephoned my MW who said i should go to hospital again to be checked. My local hospital where the MW is don't do deliveries so it would mean another 25mile trip.
I rang DH crying saying i wouldn't go back, they made me feel such a pain the day before and i didn't want to be kept in all day then sent home. DH rang the hospital to complain and asked why couldn't we be tested at the hosp in our home town. They rang him back and agreed i could go there.
Got to hospital about 10am, was put on the monitor - no contractions but babies heartrate was high when she moved but dropped well below her baseline when she settled. This was a sign she had an infection - hence my waters going.
They swabbed me and 15sec later + on the test. My notes had just arrived back from the other Hospital, it turned out the Dr didn't think i need my waters testing and tested me for chlamidia instead! What an areshole! He didn't even say he hadn't tested them, otherwise i would have insisted they did.
I was told to go straight back to the other hospital to be induced.
We arrived at 2pm, again put on the monitor - still no pain or contractions. At 3pm was given a pessary as they were far too busy with 3 mums labouring to induce me with the drip. They said if it didn't work they would put me in the delivery room at 9pm and hook me up. I also needed anti biotics prior to established labour due to infection.
The next time i saw a MW was 9:30pm, she was bringing co-codamol around and got the shock of her life when she discovered i was having contractions every 4 mins lasting 45 secs! I started with mild tummy ache at half 5 and by 8pm was getting them every 4 mins.
Within 10 mins another MW came to me and said could she examine me. I was 2.5cm dilated at 9:40pm
Was rushed to the delivery suite as i needed the antibiotic drip putting in. By the time they had finished messing around and i had had them it was 11pm. I was in agony at this point, strapped to a bed due to been monitored. I have a prolapsed dics problem in my lower back so it is bad news for me having to lay on it. Not only that an epidural was out of the question for me because of th disc problems i have.
MW wanted to put me on the drip to speed things up as she said i would not have progressed any. I asked to be checked and i was 4cm. So i was allowed to go naturally as long as i was progressing.
By 11:45pm they were coming every 2 mins and i felt awful. I was laid with my eyes shut and the gas and air did not leave my mouth for the duration!
I had pethedine as i felt like i was losing control, my favourite saying was " i don't want to do this anymore!"
The MX examined me at 12:30 and said how far do you want to be? I said 100!! She said will 9cm do ya!!
I had to lay on my left side as there was still a tiny bit of cervix there. I didn't want to move but DH and MW rolled me over. after about 6 contractions i was back on my back wanting to push.
6 Pushed later my beautiful Princess arrived at 12:42am weighing 6lb6oz. She was blue when she flew out and was in shock as she came out far to quickly. I had 2 2nd degree tears which bloody killed the days after.
2 mins later Izzy was sceaming for her mummy and took to Breastfeeding straightaway. I was stiched 2 hours later and send for a shower.
So all in all my labour was 3hrs 2 mins, so i guess i was lucky really.
Am hoping for a speedy delivery this time!
