Hannah Lucy Murphy is 5 days old now and I am just getting around yk my birth story. Here goes!
She was due Oct 12th, but like her sisters (who were both inductions and born 12 days late) she didnt wany to budge, so on Oct 23rd at 8pm I went in to get that baby out!
Arrived at 8pm and at 9pm was put on monitor. Baby was just fine in there, and I was examined. Was 2-3cm dilated so they decided to leave me until the next day before they did anything, as apparently going into labour during the night was an inconvenience for them! I was also told that I may have to go to theatre to break my waters due to risk of cord prolapse (I had polyhydramnios) as they had to be preparedito perform a csection straight away if anything were to go wrong.
At 11am I got taken to a delivery room and the consultant came in and did an ultrasound to check if there was any cord between babys head and cervix, as the head was still free and high. Thankfully, there was nothing there so at 11.20am he broke my waters, which just like my first, were meconium stained.
At 11.45, she put in my IV... althougj she burst my vein the first time un my hand (it was horrible!!) so i ended up having my iv in my arm. Apparentlt i have skinny arms and man veins! Maybe 20 minutes later I started getting tightenings, they were all at the top of my bump and felt like baby was pushing against my ribs (I wasnt aware they were contractions!) But heartrate kept going down so I was told to go on my side which baby seemed happy with, so there were no further worries.
At 1pm, contractions were getting pretty painful so I asked for gas and air which I was given straight away. I pobably could have gone longer without it but hey ho! After a few contractions with the g&a, I was in my own little world. (I bloody love the stuff!)
My midwife was finishing at 7pm and told me I better get the baby out before then... I td her not to worry and that baby would be here before 3pm! My bum was starting to get numb so I leaned up against the back of the bed for a while.
At maybe 2.10pm, I started feeling like I had to poo. I begged the midwife to let me go to the toilet afterbevery contraction but she assured me it was baby moving down (im still not sure I believe that!) I told her the baby would still be here before 3, but she aaid she thought it would take a little longer.
Anyway, at 2.30 I turned back around as I couldnt get comfortable and the poo feeling was super strong. She had a look and told me that baby would be here soon! She could see the head and if I wanted to push then to go ahead. I told her no, because I didnt want to poo! My body pushed on its own for the next few contractions and when I realised that it was the real deal, i decided to go ahead and give it a helping hand!
I think it took maybe 3/4 contractions to get the head out. It has to be the worst feeling ever. I squeezed the poor midwifes arm so hard pmsl! I did try to hold back but I'm sure she still got left with a few bruises! It wasnt really a pain... more a straaange feeling that just didn't feel natural! I totally ignored instructions to stop pushing and pant... i didnt care! After a big old push, the head was out. It was now that I decided I couldn't do it anymore and I told the midwife that! Of course she told me not to be silly and on my next contraction I pushed like I never pushed before!
As soon as my baby slipped out, my waters gushed everywhere, midwife got completely soaked!
She was put straight on me and after a few seconds she started to cry. She was just perfect! My labour was 1hr 44 minutes and she was born at 2.44pm... I was right and the midwife was wrong![Stick Out Tongue :P :P](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f61b.png)
Her apgar score at 1 minute was 9, and again at 5, so she clearly took the meconium in her stride! She was born with quite a bit of dark hair, alot more thab my other two! And the first thing I noticed was that she looked identical to my dd2.
After the third stage, I got some more cuddles and then she was weighed etc. I thought she looked teeny but midwife said 'nope, shes a chunk! Definitely high 8s!'
Turns out she was a healthy 8lbs 12.5oz, 56.5cm long and her head circ was a whopping 38cm! I escaped with a teeny graze, no tears!
She is doing great and after a first few days of not really feeding, she has turned in to a little piggy! I could not be more in love and i cant believe how lucky I am to have 3 such beautiful daughters.
