Just thought I would post my home birth/natural birth story for those who are thinking of doing so.
I was originally planning a birth in a hospital with a midwife led birth unit but at 34 weeks when I went for my labor ward tour the midwife actually asked me if homebirth was something I would consider as I was planning on having a natural/hypnobirth.
One thing led to another and with some excitement and nerves I was booked in. My pregnancy was pretty straight forward apart from a few suspected ups and downs so it was all good to go ahead for my hone birth.
well monday night I started having contractions or should I say strong bh for about 4hrs and then they died off and I went sleep to wake up to nothing.
Tuesday morning I was 2 days over so I was given a sweep at my appointment where I was already 3cm and was able to be stretched to a 5 she said it was a great sweep and we should have a baby within 24hrs.
I went on about my day with tonnes and tonnes of show and irregular bh and this went on for about 5hrs the bh which I think may have been pre labor sucked lol they were 5 mins apart then 30mins apart so just taunting me really. I decided we were having another false alarm so decide to get some rest and within 5 minutes I was uo with a very intense contraction there was no doubt in my mind I was in labor now lol. 2 waves 5mins apart and then bam 2 and a half minutes apart so it was time to call my sister and midwifes who set off on there way. My husband got the pool and everything set up while my mum lit all the candles and started burning my oils it was a lovely atmosphere!!! The waves kept coming strong between 1.5mins-2.5mins apart but my body was completely calm in between them that it didnt seem as though I was in labor we were all dtill able to joke and talk. Just after midnight the midwifes arrived and did all there checks my bp babys heart and everything was perfect about 12:30 I was at 6cm and decided to get in the pool where my contractions slowed right down from the water but I took that opportunity to rest for 15 minutes before I decided to get out and walk the house instead and as soon as I stood out of the water bam back to 2mins apart but again still so calm and in control using the hypno birthing techniques and visualisations (mine were flowers blooming in a meadow and as they would bloom i would focus that energy on my cervix opening) it got to about 1:30 and I could feel I was getting close to transition so I decided to get back in the pool which was incredible bring able to float through contractions and let my body be taken by the water stopped me from being so tense. I remembered some of the births I had read in the ina may gaskin book and started using some of there techniques like blowing the raspberries and using low tones and omg as silly as the raspberries sounds it really works!!
It wad probably now about 1:40-1:50 and contractions were just on top of one another and I could feel the head coming down and I remember saying I am going to need to push soon I can feel his heading moving and a few contractions later I let out a massive moan lol and screamed I was pushing and his head was already out, my waters hadnt broken so his head was born still with the sac in tact one more push and he was born and the sac burst as his legs came out. Everyone was a bit stunned and midwife actuslly missed he being born turned around and said oh we have a floating baby uickly grabbed him and put him on my chest he was just beautiful and so so tiny I couldnt help but blubber like a baby.
After a few minutes to let the cord stop pulsing my husband cut the cord and I started to feel a bit of pressure for the placenta but that didnt go so well so I ended up having the injection but still needed wuite a bit of help to deliver as it just kept coming apart in piece's but all was well in the end. He is feeding like a champion and it is just so relaxed and comfortable.
I honestly dont even feel like I have just had a baby! With how tranquil and peaceful the birth was it has made recovery just as pleasant.
For any of you who are thinking of home birthing or even natural birthing give it a go you will be surprised what your body can do with trust and control, I will forever be a homebirther now given the chance it was the best experience of my life xx
