My angel came in this world a bit early. Beginning of the Ninth Month, my wife had to be operated to get my baby angel out safely. At the time of born she was 1.47 Kg. She was in NICU for 23 days and when relived her weight was 1.87 Kg. She has been conctantly gaining weight and we are visiting doctors regularly and getting her vacinted timely.

However I am worried, as I read that chances of survival of very low birth weight clid are low. According to doctors all her tests and checks are fine and she is very active. Please suggest what precautions should I take and how to ensure that my angel grooms out well. She was born in the begining of the 9th Month. However a case of IUGR awere her growth was restricted by couple of weeks. All her body parts are active.

The dosctors have asked for regular eye check ups..please tell me if these things are normal.

She was born in september yes?

If the doctors have discharged her and all tests are fine then everything should be just fine!

Just because she is low birth weight there is no reason why she cant lead a normal life - we have many even smaller babies on the forum who have gone from strength to strength!

Regular eye checks are normal to check for any issues resulting from prematurity. After a while these should calm down.

Gestation is more important than birth weight. a 1.5lb 28 weeker will do a lot better than a 2.5lb 25 weeker as a rule. While preemies are at increased risk of cot death (read up on how to help prevent this - sleep on back, no loose blankets etc) the biggest risk to them is the first few days and weeks in hospital, if they've discharged your little one home then they've done so because they're confident that they're well enough not to need medical attention all the time - be reassured your baby is doing well!
