I was induced on Monday 9th Jan at 5.30pm with a pessary. I had Obstetric Cholestasis and therefore had to be induced at 37+3 weeks.
I have to say i was dreading the induction as with my firstborn, i was put on a drip and the contractions were really painful compared to the next 2 births i had.
Well the pessary was inserted at 5.30pm when i was told the cervix is ever so slightly soft but completely closed
. Around 15minutes later i had a dull ache in my back which radiated all the way down my legs and abdomen....i started having non-stop contractions...only 10 second break between each!
I am the kind of person who has never taken any pain relief for any of my labours (even my previous labour when my son was back to back), so you can imagine the shock on my husbands face when i shouted that i want the pessary out and to be given a section as i cant cope with this kind of pain!
Eventually at 9pm the midwife examined me to check what was happening...i was still the same, cervix closed :'(! I was going hysterical now. The midwife mentioned that the pains i am getting is simply due to my body being hyper-sensitive to the pessary. They couldnt do much about it. I went in the bath for half an hour which took the edge of it but still same pains.
Then around 9.30pm, the pains took a turn and i remember thinking 'this is what contractions should feel like'. They were 2-3minutes apart and lasting just less than a minute. I was managing these contractions. Went for a long walk around the hospital.
I was examined at 1.30am and i was 5cm dilated! Woohoo! Finally this is happening. The midwife said they will transfer me to Labour suite so i can have a separate room with privacy. We collected my things and waited for the lift to arrive. All of a sudden i dropped onto my knees outside the lift.....this baby was coming now!!!!
I let that contraction pass and got into the lift with the midwife. Another contraction came as we came onto the labour suite....i had to stop pushing....gosh, what an urge! Finally somehow i managed to get onto a bed in the room and pushed slightly...my waters went at this point!
3/4 more pushes and my son arrived into this world!!
We just couldnt believe how quickly i went from 5cm to having the baby! It has been the easiest (excluding the indcution bit!). First thing i asked the midwife..'any tears?' (i had a 3rd degree tear with my previous birth as he was back to back). I even bribed the midwife 'if u say i have no tears, ill give u a huge kiss!'. Well, i didnt even have a graze and she demanded a kiss LOL...and so did the other midwvies! It was such a beautiful experience.
Baby doing well, although birthweight was low...2.1kgs
. But we are both home now.
