So on the 17th I went in for a routine NST as I was 5 days "overdue" I was having regular contractions and the trace showed the baby was having some significant heart decelerations during the contractions that they didn't like. They sent me for a biophysical profile and baby looked good but the fluid was trending down...which had been a problem for me withDD . The decided to send me for extended monitoring in labour and delivery and my doctor said he wanted to induce and deliver that day. I was pretty upset to be honest, I had a terrible induction with my daughter and I felt all those feeling come flooding back and I started having a panic attack. The nurses and modwives calmed me down and reassured me this would not be the same experience, they would not let my contractions get "out of control" or wack up the pitocin to 30 units like they had with my daughter.
They checked my cervix and I was 2 cm and 50% effaced, the midwife was a real cow and very rough, I had to pee badly and I squirmed a lot and she shouted at me, saying, I couldn't even handle a sweep. They said they would start pitocin and order my epidural. I said, I don't want an epidural, the midwife scoffed at me and said, Hun, you couldn't even handle a sweep, you're going to need an epidural,
At that point I snapped and got my bitch boots on and said, look, this isn't my first time at the rodeo, I had four sweeps with my daughter, two ts pregnancy, I had two folly bulbs to mechanically dilate my cervix and a five da induction,i can handle, what I say I can handle. She basically apologised and said, oh I thought this was your first baby. I said, no, it's not...now get my doctor.
I was ver thaful when she left and I told the nurse I didn't want her again, to get another midwife. They started the pitocin and the nurse said, well done, of you want to go natural, I'll breath you through every contraction. I told her the epidural I had last time had really affected my pushing and I was almost an EMCS...and she supported me 100 percent.
Pitocin started at 3:30pm, they tried to break my waters at 5:30 but baby was too high, I asked if I could labour out of bed for a while to bring him down. They helped me out and held the monitor on me whilst I walked arou d and around, at 8:30 they checked me again and managed to rupture my waters, after that the contractions really picked up...I was in honesty, internally begging for the epidural b then. I practiced my hypnobabies and did my low moans and made it to 11:00pm, they checked an I was 5 cm...I said, ok, I need to walk again, or I'm going to be here all night. I got up again and walked, sat on the toilet, squatted...and I was in absolute Agony. The contractions couldn't be picked up on the monitor, so they had to insert an internal monitor, the midwife said the contractions were too strong, so she did, thankfully turn the pitocin down to 10. At 12:30 I was pretty much screaming and they checked me and I was 7cm. I sat in a birthing chair and suddenly felt him engage very low, my next contraction almost killed me. I shouted to gt up and then I had one rose contraction and then one more and suddenly said, I'm pushing, I'm pushing. I could feel him coming out, it had only been 12 minutes since I was 7 cm, but they checked and his head was coming down and I was fully dilated. The midwife, (a new midwife) barely had time to catch him. I squatted and he flew out in two pushes at 12:44am on the 18th December. 7lb 2oz, 20 inches and 6 days overdue.
The midwife said, well, you showed them, an induction with pitocin and no pain meds whatsoever, well done.
I was shaking all over, but I felt so much better than with my dd, I felt strong and the baby was more responsive and latched immediately.
I did have to stay in hospital a few extra days, as Teddy has jaundice, but we're home now. He is amazing, sleeps well, feeds well and my daughter is in love with him.![Hugs :hugs: :hugs:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/hug1.gif)
So, if you're being induced and think epidural is the only choice, it can be done naturally.
