Maggie is on gaviscon with every feed which makes her poos very hard (sorry tmi) to start with i was helping her along by putting her in squating position or lifting her legs up but im still doing it at 4 months!! Last night she fidgeted ALL night and i knew she needed to poo but thought id let her try it on her
own till finally at 7am i had to help her. Its cus theyre so hard. Anyone else had this prob?? Any suggestions?

Try to soften up the poo by giving her boiled water.

Or take her to the GP and they will give her Lactulose.

Also Fresh Orange juice watered down mite help.

very diluted orange juice. Or just a couple oz of water between feeds. If your FF you could try a comfort milk, cow and gate do one thats the one we use not sure about other brands. Good luck xxx

^^ exactly wss

also comfort formula helps tho ano its scary changing babys withreflux formula xx

My dr has me give haley gerber brand baby juice for her when shes constipated...i dont give it to her everyday though but the days i do its 2 oz a day

Shes on lactulose and its not doing anything ive tried giving her extra water she spits it out o will do.same.with orange juie but will try. Odd question but what consistency is their poo meant be hers is like play dough?

Play dough sounds okish.

Another thing my HV told me is a bit of Sudocrem on a cotton wool bud and just put it ever so slightly up her bottom and spin it around.

It will just ease her poo out, and stop her bottom from bleeding if its really bad.

Sounds awful... i was mortified when HV suggested it but she swore by it and i tried it with Mollie and it worked.

my hv recommended making a bottle with one less scope of milk so if you makr 6oz just put 5 scopes in and its gives them a oz if water always helped when we wads desperate we didnt do it evetyday x

It sounds like you were desperate, but im shocked your HV recommended this.

Its can make tummy condtions worse and shouldnt be done at all.

Surely it is no different to if they had had a 5oz bottle though and then drunk 1oz of plain water? Loads of people get advised to give 1oz of water, so if this was done after a 5oz bottle of water then it'd be the same contents in their tummy.

I can see why making milk thicker might be a problem though

My dr advised me to do this also, Emily is on SMA staydown & it did upset her tummy doing this.

Maggie isnt a big drinker she only drinks 15-20 ounces in a 24hr period som worried if i water down her milk she will get full but with less nutrients. Its so hard being a mum

Thickening or thinning milk shouldnt be done, its on all packaging for Formula milk.

It can aggravate existing conditions and can make baby ill.

Whats the point in sterilising all the equipment then making the feed up incorrect, defeats the point really.

No I know it shouldn't be done under normal circumstances, however I'm just saying it is no different to if they had 1oz of plain water after they had just drunk a 5oz bottle made up correctly. Given many HVs advise drinking 1oz of water to help a constipated baby to go, if they are refusing to then drink plain water, doing one bottle which is watered down, if advised by the HV, would do the same trick in helping them to go.

I was advised a few weeks back to give either water or juice to help them. I bought prune-apple and the next day she had a nice big poo!

i got these from the doctor and they work instantly!! and i mean get out of the way quick instantly! BUT the hv said that its a bit harsh for them to have at such a young age and they say they can also make their muscles lazy and dont really like you using them.
We put our little fella on cow n gate comfort (makes their poo looser!) and enrolled in baby massage classes and it has worked a lot! he was going once every 2/3 days if we were lucky and now its more or less back to every day!
They also recommend brown sugar in boiled water, havent had a go of that but have heard lots of good reviews!

For maggie its not so.much cant go But wont go if that makes sense? She will go every few days but i have to help her evert time even when her poo is what you'd class as normal. This is what im worried about.g
