My baby won't wind

My little boy is 5 weeks old now, I am breastfeeding him, pumping and giving formula x3 a day. It doesn't matter what we do, we can't get him to burp, we try all the positions and take it in turns, sometimes he will pass wind in his nappy but does that count?? Any advice will be grateful. My little one (4 weeks) was struggling to get burbs up. We Introduced dentinox colic drops at 2 weeks and phased them out now as burps come up more easy.

I tend to find some tummy time with back patting, then move to upright, if you put hand under chins and rub up the back it gets them to sit up straight allowing air out of stomach, up throat and out of mouth. If there's any hunching the wind won't get out.

Infacol is brilliant for getting DD to burp. Without it she sometimes takes a lot of back patting and rubbing, with it, it's almost instantaneous and very loud She was also on colief for a while, which helped to reduce the amount of wind forming at the other end.

I agree with the pp about changing positions, gentle pressure on the tummy, and sitting them up straight. Holding DD up against my shoulder and rubbing her back tended to work better than patting her back while sat on my knee, in the earlier days.

Breastfed babies don't always need to burp, so he may justnot be gassy when you are trying. If he DOES seem like he needs to burp, and is acting agitated like he clearly has gas he can't get up, try laying him down for a few seconds, then picking back up burp again. That always helped with my boys, as I think the laying down helps the air to move to the top of the tummy so that it can burped up.

DD rarely -almost never - burped but she never seemed uncomfortable. We would pat, rub, (very firmly pat and rub!) her little back but she just never really did. Sometimes if we laid her down and then picked her back up she might have a small burp - let's the air move around maybe.

Thank you. We are using the infacol at every feed and I'm starting to mix it up with the positions, I'll start trying the lying him down and lifting him back up and hopefully he will burp more. Although I was pleased I did get a burp last night, very happy. Thank you for all your advice, I really appreciate it xxxxx
