well ladies, little miss Tabitha Lussier Carver was born 8.30am on the 16th Feb weighing 7lbs 4.

i have already posted in 3rd tri but thought i'd stick it in here too :)

i spent the day before with kinda period cramps but didn't think anything of it (i was 40+2) i think mainly as i didn't want to get my hopes up!
At 1am, i thought they felt a bit contractionish but i'd never even had a BH so i really wasn't sure!
I was sure pretty soon tho! they were coming every 7 mins and lasting about 1 minute.
I tried to stay calm, drink tea, use a TENS machine and have a bath but they were getting more and more painful. i bascically walked in circles round my living room until 5aam when i thought i should wake my OH. He got up and i don't think he thought it was serious until he saw how much pain i was in and then he cleaned the house as i wouldn't let him touch me!!I was supposed to be having her at a local birthing centre with a pool and G&A only but i decided that something didn't feel right, i was in too much pain and i told Malc mid-contraction that the birthing centre could "get f*cked" and i needed proper pain relief! Then i started bleeding and i thought it was my show to start with. But i just kept bleeding and it wasn't mucousy so after making Malc look at my pad (he really manned up for me that night) he bundled me into the shower and said he'd start packing the car. He didn't tell me at the time, but he said the amount of blood really bothered him so while i was in the shower the called the hospital and explained the blood, contractions etc and the basically said to come in asap.
Got to Aberdeen Maternity hospital at 6.30 am, was whisked into a room and gowned up and then they took my pad away and gave it to a doctor and the midwife examined me. Not painful, just uncomfortable! then i got the gas and air and it didn't make a difference! i felt drunk afterwards but i don't think they took the pain away at all! I was 6cm at this point.
Then midwife said they would break my waters so i told Malc he didn't need to watch this and sent him out to phone my mum and get a drink. there was a really lovely student midwife holding my hand and calming me down.
Midwife warned me that breaking them might put me back a few cm, but instead i jumped to 8cm! But, when she broke them, they were full of Meuconium (spelling??!!) then she went and got another few doctors.
When Malc came back in, there was 8 people in the room and they decided to take blood from babies head, but the doc did this as i was contracting and i'd never been in so much pain! as they were doing this, babies heart kept slowing and they kept turning me about into different positions to obviously try and get madam a bit more comfortable.
Doc got her sample tested it and baby had low o2 so it was emergency section time.
8.30 am and madam came squealing into the world. Malc said she was really brown, a lot of meuconium apparently so i had to wait about 10 mins to get her for a cuddle.
Then they noticed her neck was swollen but said they would keep an eye on it and they took blood. i thought perhaps she had been lying funny or something causing it to swell.......
Then on the Thursday night, they took my little lady down to intensive care and i was in absolute bits, crying hysterically and Malc had gone so i was alone. He came asap tho.
After a day of fasting and taking blood, they have diagnosed her with Hypothyroidism. she spent another 5 nights in intensive care in an incubator all wired up, with Oxygen, antibiotics, saline and glucose.
She has has an enlarged wall in her heart but its causing no problems what so ever!
Those 5 days were without a doubt the most difficult in my entire life. Seeing your baby in an incubator all wired up absolutely broke my heart every time.
i got to take her out to breast feed tho and Malc changed all her dirty nappies and the nurses were absolutely brilliant in there which really helped!

we finally got her back to labour ward with me (it was so hard seeing all the mums with babies and mine wasn't with me!) on Tuesday night @ 11.30pm and they released us last Wednesday at 4pm (a week after her birth)

We have an appointment with the Specialist on Wednesday to talk about her hypothyroidism but she takes a wee tablet a day crushed in milk and she will take it for the rest of her life but will lead a completely normal life.

Well done if you have lasted this long, i just wanted to get it all written down as i have always loved reading everyone elses birth stories!

congrats, what a gorgous little girl you have... glad everything turned out ok :hugs:

Aw bless you what a trauma for you all xx glad to hear all is well now and hope you're recovering too? Hugs xx

i was recovering well, until i got an infection in my c-section scar and am now on antibiotics! so i'm really taking it easy now!

Oh sweetheart. I shall immediately stop complaining about my stitches!! I had no idea, been so wrapped up in my own little world!! I can't even imagine what you went through as just 20 mins of Niamh in obs had me in shreds. Must say though, your story has just reminded me that my waters were broken too and had meconium in, god, I must have blocked loads out!

Glad to hear all is well now and your little darling is precisely that and a lovely name too. COngratulations!! Our babes share a birthday!

Well done to Malc too for manning up, he is probably the same as my OH who has now experienced a whole new world of things he should never have been privvy to! It must be very hard for them to see us go through all of this, and the babies, we sometimes think it's only us women that get affected by it all.

Big love xxxxx

Oh sweetheart. I shall immediately stop complaining about my stitches!! I had no idea, been so wrapped up in my own little world!!

Oh Minky don't say that! you're stitches sound absolute agony! i was fine until Saturday when it opened but its not sore at all, it more my fear of the infection or of my insides falling out!

you are right about them manning up tho, Malc is dressing my pus oozing scar twice a day and he doesn't even flinch! I asked him last night if we'll ever have sex again (as i thought i must've completely put him off me by now!) but he looked really panicky and said "i bloody hope so!!" :happydance:

Your litttle Niamh is absolutely adorable and i'm sure she is an absolute joy, just like Tabitha!

We are off to the hospital for them to take more blood from her tomorrow to check her thyroid function, its horrible to watch and she screams and screams but i suppose it has to be done.....

:hugs: to you all too

Rob has 'hair-dryed' my wound from behind. Poor man.
