Ok so my little man Jacob Max arrived a week early on friday 11/01/13 at 4.54pm weighing 7pound8 im finally awake enough to write my birth story!

So it started on Tuesday i was having more regular bh/period pains all day and by the evening they were definitely contractions and were getting more regular, frequent, and painful so i went to L&D sometime that night and was examined and told that i was in early labour but i wasn't dilating and they couldnt even reach my cervix so i was sent home and had no sleep that night!!

Then all day wednesday and thursday it was the same thing painful, quite regular contractions, no sleep and no progress i went to see my midwife some time on wednesday and she said the same thing she couldnt even find my cervix and told me to take paracedamol and gave me a tens machine but i didnt like it so after a couple of goes stopped using it!

By thursday evening i was so fed up i hadnt slept since monday and i kept bursting into tears so i went to l&d again and basically demanded they did something but after being checked again i was told i still hadnt progressed but they could keep me in and give me some petherdine to see if it helped me sleep!!

After having the petherdine the contractions actually got more painful so after trying to sleep and suffering for a bit i went to find a midwife who suggested i have a bath and gave me some co-codamol. The bath didnt help at all but there was a ball in the bath room that i sat on while i was getting dried and having a contraction and i found it helped so i sat on a ball for the rest of the labour until i had to push really I would definitely recommend it!

So after hours of sitting on the ball rocking and breathing though my contractions and the midwife pretty much ignoring me all night and not offering any other pain releif or even checking on me during the rest of the night! I asked a different midwife to check me at about 10.30am and she said something like 'is your partner close by?' I said 'well about half an our away why' So she said
'i think your about 7cm dilated now'

I was shocked i was so sure she was going to say i hadnt progressed and i had to go home!! I rang my husband and was moved to a different room!! :)

After a few hours of contracting and using gas and air which i dont think did much except make me concentrate on taking deep breaths but i was already doing that so i could of carried on without it i think. I was checked and my waters hadnt broken so the midwife broke them and told i was fully dilated and could start pushing when i felt the urge!

As baby was still back to back i found pushing while leaning over the back of the bed easiest so did that for a few hours then the midwife asked me to go on my back to be checked how far i was progressing but didnt let me turn around but pushing on my back was harder and apparently i kept lifting my bum up even tho i didnt know i was doing it and my midwife and husband were telling me off!

I noticed the machine kept beeping (i think they were using it cos there was a bit of micomonim (or whatever the poo is called) in my waters but not much) but i thought it was cos the stupid pulse thing on my finger kept coming off but after an hour or more of pushing i was told that everytime i pushed babys heart rate was dropping and she was getting worried cos he seemed to be stuck as he was still back to back so she called a doctor in.

The doctor said they if he wasnt out soon they would have to try vontouse and forceps cos baby is becoming destressed so he came back after half an hour and said they were going to take me into theatre to try and get him out and might need to cut me so id need an epidurial and if it didnt work then they might need to do a c section!!

The epidural wasnt too bad but being numb was weird i felt tingly from my tummy down! They tried to turn him using vontouse but couldnt get a good grip crip cos of the angle he was at so they used forceps and cut me and mananged to turn him and told me to push as hard as i could while they pulled! which was weird as they were telling me to push into my bum but i couldnt feel my bum!! Then a doctor said 'ok we'll have one more go but then we might have to go a c section!' and then i did it!!

It was amazing the doctor said 'get ready to meet your baby' and put him on me and i cried and my husband cried i was so happy and couldnt believe he was finally here!!

I got stitched up and my husband went to see our son and cut the cord then we all went back to the room where a lady who was taking over from my midwife who i had only just met washed me i thought it was a bit weird as she washed everything even my face which i could of done myself but anyway and my boobs and bits which i felt weird about as id only just met her but never mind!

The most annoying thing that happened during my labour (except the stressful end) was that my mother in law who i wouldnt let in the room and didnt want to even come to the hospital until after the birth but she did anyway and she dragged my husband away while i was pushing and not wanting to be left but she wanted to know how it was going and it felt like he was gone ages and i was getting upset but i dont think it was more that 5 mins i just thought 'why couldnt she just wait?' !!

So i feel like up until the end it was a good labour and no where near as bad as i thought and i would do it all again!! I never even screamed and shouted and if he didnt get destessed i think i could of done it with just that one shot of petherdine that i had hours before and some gas and air that i actually gave up on during the pushing cos it was annoying me!!

So anyone whos really scared of labour dont be its not the worst thing ever! You can do it! Iwas scared but i did it!!

Also my first (and all other) pee and poo werent painful at all even with a 3rd degree cut and i only bled heavily for 2 days then it pretty much stopped and im only wearing a panty liner now!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and labours xxxx
If you have any questions feel free to ask! Sorry this was a bit long! :)

Oh my gosh what is wrong with midwives..
A similar thing happened to me with DS. I was admitted for obs as I had some bleeding and went into labour overnight- the midwives insisted I was not in labour and also failed to examine me all night. By the morning I was 7cm dilated. I also went through those initial hours on my own without DH as thought no point waking him if labour not actually established.
I was going to complain but like you was blessed with such a gorgous result that I couldnt bring myself to..
But really that is poor care!
Congrats on ur beautiful bundle though...

congratulations, and thank you for sharing that you've actually helped me feel a bit less nervous. I hope everyones doing well
