Hi ladies...
Finally ready to share my story as I feel it is important that other ladies know how different your birth can end up to how you hoped.

My daughter was born at 2.31am on Tuesday 26th November at 39+2. She weighed 6lb 13oz......

Saturday 23rd: When I went to the toilet in the morning, I had egg white mucus with a streak of blood accompanied by strong period like pains. Rang OH and said that I think things may be starting to happen.

Sunday 24th: 2am I get woken up by a contraction. They are coming every 20 minutes. Go to the toilet and have bloody show. Decide to keep active. Mucked out horse and cooked a roast dinner.
Rang hospital when contractions 10 mins apart. Tell me to ring back when 3 mins apart.
By 9 pm contractions ranged from 2 - 6 mins apart. Movement reduced. Rang hospital. Told me to go in to have baby monitored.
10pm at hospital. Machines dont pick up my contractions. Told me Im not in labour must be BH. Keep me in as BP is high.
2am contractions really painful. Been awake 24 hours. Givrn pethidine so I can sleeo at about 4am. By 5am pethidine not helping. Given TENS. Still being told Im not in labour.

Staff change over st 8.45. Day shift mw comes to see me. Monitor still not picking up contractions but she said she can see by my reaction to them that I am having them. Manually counting....2 mins apart. MW decided to examine me. I was 5 cm dilated.
Told I cant have water birth as BP too high. Moved to delivery unit at 10am.

Given gas & air....threw it across the room as I really didnt like how it made me feel.
Asked for epidural as been awake 35 hours and exhausted.

Epidural was fab! Until some one caught it and pulled it out. 1 hour wait for aneasathist. Hooked back up and examined. 8cm.

MW shift ended 8.15. New MW and student came in.
At 10 pm I was finally fully dilated. Start pushing at 11pm. 12.30am told to stop pushing. Baby is back to back and cant get out. Starting to get distressed.
Epidural fails.
I turn into some horrible entity. The pain is too much. Its now 46 hours.
Told need to go to theatre. Not enough theatre staff and already some one in there.
By this point I actually wanted to die.
Taken to theatre just after 2am. Given spinal block. Numb from collar bone down. I was quite scared by this point.
Lauren arrived by forceps at 2.31am.

My birth was the total opposite of what I had hoped for.....water birth no pain relief.

Its all worth it though when you have your baby in your arms.

I am still VERY sore from the cut. Pain killers not cutting it so I am resting as much as possible.

Thanks ladies. She is a week old now and just perfect. Struggling with breast feeding so combining with formula (breast day, bottle night). But we are getting there.
