A little late but better than never.

As hard as it was my husband and I remained team yellow throughout the pregnancy. Our little girl Louise Marie arrived on April 27, 2015 @ 2:05pm. She was 7lbs9.8oz and 20in long.

I had been dealing with high blood pressure for almost two weeks. They couldn't figure out why it was spiking. My numerous labs came back negative for pre eclampsia and at 39 weeks, seeing the on call OB(mine as on vacation), I got put on bed rest. At my appointment 39+5, I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. He did a sweep in hopes it would get things moving a long. during the appointment I had my BP taken 4 times and none of them were very good. He sent me to labor and delivery for monitoring. I was told that if baby looked good and my BP came down to "my normal" that he would schedule an induction for Monday (40+1). If not, I'd remain and be induced ASAP. After 3 hours and more labs showing that I didn't habe pre eclampsia I was discharged. An indiction was scheduled and I was due back Sunday at 10pm.

My husband and I arrived at 10pm to labor and delivery. I was nervous yet calm. I wasn't sure what to expect so I just went with it. We had no birth plan and the only thing I really wanted was an epidural if needed. I was checked in and I changed into my gown. By 11pm I had an IV with fluids. I also got hooked up to the monitors. The nurse had asked me if I felt any contractions. I said randomly but not to bad. I think she was shocked because I was having contractions every 3 minutes and I didn't even know!! She checked me and I was a "stretchy" 2-3 and still at 80%. By 12am they had the pitocin set up and started it. The plan was to gradually increase it throughout the night. They came in every 30 minutes. I attempted to sleep but I just couldn't. Within 45 minutes of the pitocin starting my contractions were getting intense and they ranged from being 1-4 minutes apart. Some of them lasting quite a long time. I spent the first 3 hours on my back but tilted to my left side. At 2:50am I really had to pee. So I asked the nurse to help me. (Didn't want to wake my husband at this point). I used the bathroom and stood up and felt like I peed myself. I had been given pain meds also so I was a bit groggy. I sat back down and when I got up the same thing happened. I told the nurse and she went to check and told me my water broke! They weren't expecting that to happen and after consulting with the ob on call they reduced the pitocin. I went back to bed and tried to get comfortable. My contractions were very regular and very very strong. My husband had woken up and asked progress. I was 3cm and still 80% at this point. I lasted until 5:00am and asked for an epidural which I got at 5:30am. The constant drip was wonderful until I realized it was not helping my left side - mainly my hip! I was numb everywhere else. At 7:30 the anesthesiologist came back in and repositioned the needle and covered it back up in hopes that it would take effect. The now day nurses started having me flip every 30 minutes from side to side. This made me cranky. But I did it. They started the pitocin back up every 30 min as well. My OB wS on call now and she came at 10am to see me- not even kmowing I was induced yet! There had been no change from when I was checked last. My BP was spiking to 180/100 and my contractions were lasting 2- 2 1/2 min and randomly spaced out from 1-3 minutes. So I had no break. I breathed through them due to the pain in my hip. They kept fixing something with the epidural in hopes it would help and it didn't. By 11:30am I had horrible pressure. I was checked and found to be 8cm and 100% effaced! So I went pretty quickly once they upped the pitocin. They came in and gave me some ice chips which my husband fed to me. I was also in so much pain that I couldn't reach the button for meds so he had to press it for me. They had me flipping every few minutes. It seemed as if I would just get comfortable and then id have to move. By 12:30 I had a catheter in and internal monitoring. I was checked and at 9cm. My BP was still spiking and baby's heart rate randomly dropped. By 1pm I had my husband hit the button bc I felt as if I had to push. They checked me and I was ready to go. They paged my OB and the nurses had me start pushing. After a few tries they pages my OB again bc baby's heartrate was dropping to much and it was taking up to two contractions for it to come back up. I got put on oxygen at this point. My OB arrived and checked me and it was found that the baby shifted and she needed to be moved back into position. My OB was able to manually move her just enough during contractions with me pushing to get the vacuum attached to her to help her out. It was either this or an emergency c section and my OB said she hates doing c sections if they can be avoided. They had to do it 3 times and on the 3rd time the person holding the handle part lost it. At this point her head was out and the vacuum would have only helped her shoulders come out. I pushed 2 more times and she was out. I only pushed for 1hr 5min! Due to the assisted delivery and all the issues during labor with her heartrate they took her straight over to be checked out. I was being stitched at this point. I didn't tear on my own but I did have an episiotomy - 2nd degree. I'd take that over an emergency c section any day. It took a little bit of time for her breathing to normalize but everything was fine. The back of her head was very very sore from the vacuum. After an hour I was able to hold her and breastfeed. She latched on like a champ and fed for almost 20min! We got moved to the other side, out of recovery, after 3 1/2 hours. (There were a lot of babies born that day!!)

She is doing wonderful and I can't believe she will be 3 weeks old on Monday already. Time sure flies when you're changing diapers, feeding on demand and getting no sleep. Haha!

Congratulations on your little girl!! (Lovely name btw)

& thanks for sharing your story :)
