I had just fallen asleep when I heard my baby's snuza monitor alarm so I shot up and immediately checked him. He was face down in his pack n play and I shook him and yelled his name, he was limp. So I picked him up and jostled him a bit and he eventually gave me a little groan. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well last night after that!!

Who knows if he would have corrected the problem himself or if the snuza saved his life, all I know is I am so happy that I made the investment for a breathing monitor!! Today could have been much different had I not. I hate to think about the possibility of what I could have woken up to this morning!!

So for any of you on the fence about breathing monitors, please get one!

I have one... I don't think I could sleep without one because I have anxiety over him sleeping in his room by himself. Glad LO is fine tho, how scary!

Wow, so glad you have one! I have a Snuza too. It went off a couple times but I wasn't sure if it was because he stopped breathing or if the diaper was too far from his skin. It looked ok. But I just grabbed him so fast if he wasn't breathing he started again when I picked him up so rough.

How scary! We have an angelcare and despite what people say about them causing unnecessary worry, I have found it has the opposite effect on me and keeps my mind at ease. We are at the inlaws this weekend, LO is in a travel cot so we've had to leave the sensor pad at home since they don't work in travel cots, even oh kept waking up last night to check on her and he's usually so laid back he's horizontal!

Definitely worth it imo, glad your little guy is ok.

It's gone off before but it's usually cause the diaper comes away from the skin or it falls off the diaper, but he was in a deep sleep and hadn't moved so I think it was possibly some apnea? I don't know, but it was scary!

Twister- it has an opposite effect on me as well. I sleep great knowing I'll be alarmed, when he doesn't have it on I have terrible sleep!

OMG!!!!!!!!! this gives me chills!!! Im investing in one as soon as possible! I went to her crib the other nite and she had kicked the blanket over her face..no idea how long the blanket had been covering her face!!! So now, no more blankets until she gets a little older (she's 6 months) she was totally fine but I was so scared when I snatched the blanket off of her...thank God your baby is okay!!!!

So scary :( I think my movement monitor is the best thing EVER. My LO normally co-sleeps now that she's 6 months but we start her off in her crib at night and I always have it on. We had one scare where is went off but it was a false alarm because I didn't have the sensitivity up enough. I am glad to hear your LO is okay!

Both of mine have Angelcare monitors and they are just the best things ever. As said, they mean I can be so much more relaxed and sleep better, as just a quick glance at the monitor in the middle of the night shows me that everything is ok.

DS spent his first night without a monitor just a few weeks ago (he's nearly 2!), at my parents house when we stayed for the night at the last minute. That was weird!

We've had a couple of "false alarms" although they weren't actually false, we just had the sensitivity wrong and he'd rolled off the sensor and his movements weren't picked up. Now we've got the settings sorted we haven't had any false alarms in over a year. DD's monitor went off once, and when I went in she wasn't moving and was totally silent. When I picked her up she took a big deep breath in and was fine after that. But the fact that the alarm went off (not just the warning beep, the full alarm) shows that she must have been not breathing for quite a while. Who knows, she could have been perfectly fine without the monitor, but I definitely wouldn't do without it.

I'm glad he's ok :hugs:

I didn't get one for Thomas as we co-slept but I may for the next one. Seems like a good investment.

Angelcare monitor is the only reason I sleep at night.

Sorry you had such a fright, Hun. Glad to hear your LO is okay. :hugs:
Knowing that our Angelcare monitor 'looks after' our LO at night relaxes me big time. We've had a few false alarms but I'd rather deal with those than the alternative.

Wow, so glad your little one is okay! I have a Snuza too. For those who get a lot of false alarms, I haven't had a single one since I started clipping it on her pants instead of a diaper. I just put her in a regular sleeper, then put a pair of pants over top, then clip the Snuza to the pants. I used to get false alarms when I used the diaper, because it's too thin, even when folded over.

i used to clip it to her pants but i fell off a few times so i stopped. thank god for snuza.. seriously..

the other night though i took it off her in my sleep.. and i have noooo idea why? i remember doing it.. but i dont have any reason why i would do it.. scares me.. it's never happened before. i wonder if it went off and i just turned it off? (i used to do this with alarm clocks..) makes me sick to think of it.. i bought it BECAUSE she'd been having scary episodes..

Shouldn't you go to a doctor if you think your Lo has stopped breathing in the night?

Sorry, still think they are an unnecessary stress and no evidence they prevent SIDS.

Unnecessary stress for you maybe but clearly for the ladies in this thread they are not. If OP's alarm hadn't gone off I dread to think what might have happened, that alarm could have saved her LO's life.

Def not a stress!! I can't understand why people would even think that. I have an angel care and being a ftm it gave me the confidence to put my lo in his own room and feel secure to relax myself. There is also evidence that the monitor has saved some babies life's by alerting their parents that they have stopped breathing. I can't believe any one would think that there anything but a good investment. X

I'm so happy that your baby is okay. xx

We have a Snuza, and an Angelcare. With my son, we only had the Angelcare. The reason it gave false alarms for us is because you're supposed to have a piece of wood under it. We never did that, so it went off a lot.

LOVE the Snuza. It's great. Gives me such peace of mind.

I don't understand how having a movement monitor can be stressful?! What's to stress about - turning it on, in exactly the same way you would a normal monitor?!

If they are set up correctly then there are VERY few false alarms (haven't had one in over 12 months, with 2 monitors) and they just mean I know my babies are breathing and safe and that I'd be alerted if anything happened (not just SIDS but suffocation or any other reason that may cause them to stop breathing).

I can understand that some people are more relaxed and don't feel they need one which is great. But personally speaking I use them not just for peace of mind, but also because I feel they are an important safety precaution. At the end of the day, whilst it's unlikely that your baby is going to stop breathing in their sleep it DOES happen. Without a monitor it may go unnoticed, with a monitor it can't go unnoticed and therefore action could be taken. It's as simple as that in my book!

Other than people who've had a faulty monitor that has constantly gone off all night long, I really don't think there are many people out there thinking "oh I wish I'd never used that movement monitor, it was so stressful!"

Honestly, I find it more stressful when I DON'T have it on. To each their own, right? What works for me doesn't need to work for anyone else. And you're right, they CAN'T say that it's a monitor for SIDS because it's a liability thing. But I would say its for darn sure it works...I mean look at the OP's example. Who knows what would have happened if that alarm didn't go off or if she didn't have it.

Scary hey! We have the Angelcare and it went off twice when she was a tiny baby, she was in her bassinette next to my bed (co-sleeper) and she was in such a deep sleep I know it wasn't a false alarm. I sleep so much better knowing it will alarm if she stops breathing.
