13th Nov - Sweep #2 was performed. No big changes to report, 2-3cm dilated. Cervix still tube like, soft and slightly posterior. Bloody show straight after, lasted roughly 1hr.
14th Nov 1am - I was woken by feeling 'pain' in my dream only to work out I was actually feeling a pain when I woke up. Finally after weeks of waiting for this I knew the end was getting close. My pains kept coming regular for bouts of 45mins ranging from 40-90sec in length. I let hubby sleep and just got through a couple hours worth rocking at end of the bed. They stepped up a notch I decided to wake hubby to let him know, we headed down stairs to see what would happen.
Things started to die down and hubby didn't believe it was time, I wasn't feeling any contractions while using the birthing ball but felt them when standing/walking. I really thought it was time when I was woken up but as early morning started to come in I felt doubtful. Even though hubby wasn't best pleased I asked him to take the day off, as I still had a lingering feeling about things, from 9am - 2pm I just had random contractions but nearly always had 4 in one hour. I had an consultant appt for 2:30pm to go over the fact I was refusing induction at T+10, we waited 2hrs before having some basic obs done then further hour to see consultant who wasn't one I needed to see just for him to say a load of crap about how I should be birthing in hospital that coming in for traces would not help, etc etc. On way out I booked to come in on 17th for some monitoring. When we got home contractions we still ranging at a big gap of 20mins apart lasting 1-2mins when coming on, the night continued like any other we decided to get an early one after having only few hours previous night.
15th Nov 1:20am - I woke up to a pain which I didn't really register at first and tried to ignore it and go back to sleep. In the end I got up for a wee as I did so I got a contraction and had tonnes of bloody mucus. Instant thought of 'wooohooo' it maybe time! I then went on to have another contraction. I went back to time a few contractions but they weren't nothing like the night before I lost all hope again and tried to try and go back to sleep. I did nod back off only to be woken by one hell of a contraction, after 1 more I had to grab hubby arm and hand while rocking it out. I managed an hour of this before saying "No I can't lie here this is it!" I got back up went to bathroom to have more contractions quiet close together and having them while peeing which I know from previous babies is a very positive sign for me. I shouted to hubby you really need to get up, he came in bathroom to see I really was in pain with them and agreed they had changed. We got downstairs and started to prepare for our home birth.
We got all shower curtains out and started to fill the pool, my contractions coming every 3-4 mins lasting 40-60secs. I then started to throw up at this point, which while having a contraction is very unpleasant. Grandparents were informed and making their way across to collect our older children, the pool was filled in no time really. My contractions seemed to have gone a bit irregular but was no doubt it wasn't time. Next my tummy started to hurt really bad and clear out started in full force but thankfully short lived as I had kept my intake to a minimal. We rang the hospital triage to inform them labour had started that midwife needed to be called. This is when everything went pear shaped. (4:35am). We had a call back from a midwife(5:18am) saying was staff shortage and that no midwife was available to attend my homebirth, my world felt like it came crashing down. All my hopes and dreams were smashed after the hard fight and battle I had been through. I spoke to midwife on the phone saying all staff had been called to cover the hospital but they may have some available come 8am but was no guarantee and we wouldn't know how fast the labour could progress. We agreed to wait it out for a bit and come in if we felt things were going to quickly, contractions kept coming and felt like they were lasting much longer. I started to throw up some more, ugh so horrible.
After talking with hubby about what we should do and my contractions getting stronger we decided to take a trip to hospital to get assessed and see what plan we could arrange.( I had positive strep b at 14w - which made us decide we couldnt risk birthing at home alone ) On the way to the hospital the road we needed to take was closed second unlucky thing to happen so far.
We arrived at hospital(6:36am), and we're met by a porter to show us where to go, of course the ward was up 2 flights of stairs and I hate lifts but I managed! I was taken to a lovely room with a water pool on MLU, everyone was so lovely which is very different from my last birth.
I agreed to a VE at around 7:30am the midwife said I was 3cm, I could have cried. The pain I was feeling was unreal it was just like how I'd felt between 6-8cm with my other babies. I felt like a failure that I couldn't do it and that thought of having an epidural was my only option. I guess the tiredness was kicking in at this point. I wasn't allowed to stay on MLU and had to be moved to triage which felt like a mile walk and another flight of stairs. I was put in a little room to wait it out a little longer, I went to the bathroom and round 2 of massive sick session happened with crippling contractions at the same time. (Bloody difficult doing both together!) I seen another midwife(9am) who was also very nice and told me as I'd come in due to their problems they would fulfil my birth plan as best as they could. (I still haven't had any pain relief my contractions are still not in any pattern but are long lasting) The midwife had commented on my contractions not being in a regular enough pattern for her, I asked if there was a pool available she said yes I'll go and arrange that. She came back in and said 'those contractions seem to be getting more intense, can I check you?' . I agreed feeling very nervous and worried to be told no change... 5cm! woohoo. (9:22am) now for my next long walk over to delivery suite but thankfully no more stairs (On the top floor) contractions getting even close and longer. Felt like every inch of my thigh bones were being broken, the pressure above pubic bone just crazy. I got into the pool room the pool was almost filled (they say on average that takes 25mins plus say 10mins for me to walk to the room) It must have been 10am at this point I hit transition, was no mistaking that! Here comes my third massive sick session, contractions just not ending so moving each foot an inch at a time I slowly got into the birth pool. Oh my the water was so much warmer than I expected it was bliss! First contraction in the water felt slightly better until it reached the peak then that just lasted 3x as long it never really fizzled out completely until the next came. I tried moving onto my back which was very easy but all in all was no less painful being in the water.
Then the sound effects started, 4th contractions hit the peak and midwife said I was fully dilate and head was just there all ready. Back on too all fours and the pushing started within few minutes my waters went 'ahhh waters' instantly starting stinging and burning like hell, I didn't recall that. I wanted that baby out then and there! I pushed with all my might her head came out, I was told to sit back on my legs so that I could deliver the baby myself... I did! (10:27am)It has got to be the best feeling ever to get your heads around them and bring them up to your chest without anyone else touching them! We moved the cord to see we had our third little girl!
I can remember hubby saying to me 'You did it!' my reply was 'Can I have my Chinese now' ha-ha. We did delay cord clamp in the water, then I got on the bed to deliver my placenta without the injections.
