I had an elective c section, as my baby was transverse lie, and i had polyhydramnios with additional fluid.
at 37 weeks i was sent in for a scan and advised that the baby was breech position and that would be better to try for an ecv i did this the following day, which failed and a c section was booked for me
after 5 days i still hadnt heard anything, so rang the hospital id been lost in the system and my c section hadnt been booked, and they needed me in as no one had checked the baby since the ecv,
arrived at hosp to be scanned baby had gone back to transverse lie and they were admitting me that day with c section on friday omg so with no bag on me, 8pm at night my husband and i was there within 48 hours we are to be parents.
the day before the c section.
as i was admitted i didnt have to go in for the pre op - i was measured for stockings and given a set, given a gown to wear, and given anti sickness tablets. blood pressure checked and canula flushed (it had been pushed on me when i was admitted and later the anethestist said it shouldnt have been put in. i was nil by mouth from midnight.
in the morning i had a scan to confirm babys position (he had since turned breech over night)
blood pressure check, more anti sickness pills, told to gown up, and third on list.
next thing cot arrives in my room (aww) and i start to pack up my room and re move to post natal room.
by around 12pm it was time to go down, we made our way to the delivery suite, walking along corridors and heard a blood curdling scream of a woman in labour ouchies! and stood outside the theatre and watched as a lady came out holding her baby so happy, i knew there cant be anything to be scared of.
we walked into a smaller room before theater, drip was added to cannula, and we practice bending over a pillow.
i'm then led into the theatre, and told to sit on the table, there are lots of people buzzing round, the anesthetist pushes at my spine locating where to start the spinal, (this was the worst bit of it) he ran his hands up and down and sprayed a cold spray, then a plastic sheet went on my back, and im told to lean forward.
i feel the local going in but wasn't too bad no worse than i had felt at any other blood test, then as it wore in, i could feel the spinal not as a pain but just felt like a scratching against my spine, was just weird not painful at all.
then he says very quickly we need your legs up and i'm swivelled round and as that happens i can hear clippers going (didn't get time to wax), i even commented and they said its part of our job love don't worry, ive got blood pressure cuff on which stays on through out the op, drips are connected to cannula and the catheter is inserted (didnt feel it)
a sheet comes up over my head and with my husband beside me this whole time, we sat snuggled behind the sheet,
i feel movement on my belly i was under the impression that they were feeling where baby was or something didnt hurt, didnt feel uncomfortbale just like a midwife check, the suddenly i heard my son cry, i looked at my husband, and he looked at me and we both sobbed, then they asked if we wanted to see him , then they dropped the curtain and there he was held in front of us crying, amazing
they took him to get cleaned and wrapped and i said to give him to my husband and he held him as we both looked in amazement, the rest of the time was just me my husband and my thomas as i asked my husband to keep telling me the time, then i knew it couldnt be much longer, we heard dressings going on and then it was done
i was transferred to my bed, and taken to recovery, my baby placed in my arms, i was there for about half an hour with baby and hubby, we did skin on skin but i couldnt feed as they had to do some tests first,
we were then taken to my room, and i just held him.
recovery was fine, i took all the drugs they offered, i thought that people changing my towels would be horrible but it was sort of natural, i was up and about the next day and home the day after im now at home with my gorgeous son and up and about a fair bit
so if you have to have a c section, its not a bad as i thought, and i still had an incredible birth experience
