I got a call from cats protection, who scanned her microchip. We know where she is, she's living a few streets up in the garage of an elderly couple. I haven't seen her for a month now... The elderly couple aren't feeding her or anything.... But she seems determined to live there. What should I do? We have a nice big, warm house, with plentiful food and water. Two other cats, but they all get along. The only thing I can think of is the kids can be noisy, but they're never mean to her, they've grownup with her.

I'm thinking if she doesn't come back after the winter maybe I should offer to regime her with the elderly couple as she obviously likes it there? What would you do?

unfortunately i don't think there is anything you can do nor do i think it's anything to do with her not liking you. Ours was spoilt rotten!
We lost our gorgeous little boy so someone who was constantly feeding him she had an attack of the guilts and eventually after 5 weeks took him to the vets where they called us. we picked him up but the "damage" was done.
He was an outdoors cat so any opportunity he had he went wandering, in time the vets got sick of keep calling us to tell us where he was (like it was our fault) so we decided if he was happy where he was to leave him be and hope that one day he might come back unfortunately he never did!! :hugs:
apparently "all cats have two homes"

Our cat rehomed herself too. TBH I think nearly all cats that go outdoors run away at some point

I agree, there's not much you can do. Cats are roamers by nature. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with you or the kids or anything

Mine has too! She was a funny little thing. Didnt take well to change so when the twins came home she kept going for days on end and now hasnt bn home for wks. I know she has another home nearby so im not worried. I feel bad for her but cats arent loyal and if feel threatened will go elsewhere. Theyre prob feeding her nicer food than i am.

MiL acquired a cat a few years ago, wouldn't leave her alone and kept trying to come in. She kept taking her back to the original owners but the cat always came back to MIL.

I think that cats are really independent especially outdoor ones, I wouldn't take it personally hun :hugs:

Oh thats sad, ive not heard of this before, I know cats often dissappear to die if there ill. My parents cat never rehomed herself she died last month age 17 she didnt wonder of to die either she died in front of my mum in the living room. They now have rescued another cat id be so sad if she just dissapeared . X

awww makes me glad my tigger is a house cat, cats can be funny creatures.

Our neighbours cat tried this on with us. I had to totally ignore him before he got the message and went home. Our boy's strictly a house cat and a spoilt rotten one at that, would break my heart if he ran away.
They are so fickle though!

When i was living at home with my parents they had 2 male cats and the youngest disappeared... then a few years later my sister spotted him a few miles away (she said she saw the white patch on one of his hind legs)

Then the oldest one went missing and didnt come back for almost 6 months and then randomly he came back, i know male cats usually go wandering in the mating seasons and then come back a few months later.

DH and i got 3 male cats who are neutered and rarely wonder out unlike the black one who once went missing for 2 weeks but he came back... i think cats are their own creatures and wouldnt take it personally :hugs:

My old cats ditched me :( they both went out nearly two years ago and never came back! they were really peeved off they had been locked in for 2weeks after they were done and when i did let them out they came back once or twice but wouldn't stay inside, i am fairly sure they are living with one of my neighbours. I have since got two more cats and they have never been outside and it is staying that way :)x

I made a thread the other day about how my neigbours had moved and it seemed they had just left their cat behind- when I finally was able to contact them they told he refused to leave with them and he had ran off and there was nothing they could do- it happens and I don't think there is anything you can do.

If you concerned they will starve- maybe go and talk to the elderly couple or take it to a shelter if you feel it is going to continue to run away.

Have you actually tried bringing her home or are you assuming?

aww you poor thing, unfortunately cats are extremely independent but if my cat decided to live elsewhere id be devastated hun.
do you know if the neighbour isvwilling to take the cat.

We spoke to the elderly couple today. They feel they are too old to take responsibility for her, so we are going to rehome her through cats protection. We've tried bringing her back home but she just legs it the minute the doors open and goes back to her garage. I think she wants a quieter environment, which we can't provide having two noisy kids, so we feel ts best to rehome her somewhere quiet. It's wierd because we've had her six years and she's always gone missing for a few days at a time but never like this, I haven't seen her for over a month now.

She is spayed soi don't think it's a mating thing...
