I was due on December the 18th, had a sweep on the 20th but it didnt really do anything. I was laid in bed on thursday night (22nd) and felt a trickle. Got up o go for a wee and got back into bed. Again felt more trickle then started to feel tightenings. My OH came up to bed and i told him I thought my waters had broke. I tried to go to sleep for a bit but by 3am the tightenings were getting worse and more painful. Rung up labour ward and explained the situation and they asked me to go in and get checked. Headed to labour ward and they confirmed my waters had broke but sent me home as my contractions werent strong enough but they also booked me in for induction on christmas eve just incase i didnt go into full blown labour naturally. Got back home about 5.15am and my contractions got stronger. By 12pm i hadnt felt him move since id been on labour ward so phoned triage and they told me to go in. Got to triage where the put me on a monitor. Baby was fine and it also measured my contractions which werent still strong enough so got sent home again. By the time i got home my contractions then died off. Went to bed but didnt sleep as I was again having contractions. rang up the hospital in the at 8am and they told me to go in to be induced. Took them 3 and half hours to admit me! The midwife checked me and said i was 3cm, she gave me a sweep at the same time and about 15 mins later i was in full blown labour! contractions were horrific! they were all at the front nothing in my back at all. got transferred to labour ward where i had to be put on a monitor because of it being so long since my waters had broke. The midwife looked at the monitor and simply described my contractions as a train because they were coming that fast there wasn't a break between any of them. I asked for gas and air but it didnt touch the sides of me and made me terribly sick, had soem pethidine and again it didnt touch me so ended up having an epidural which was a relief! even though my original birth plan consisted of going in the birthing pool and having just gas and air but because of my waters breaking over 36 hours previously that all went out the window! I went from 4cm to fully dilated in an hour. Pushed for just 12 mins and out he came!
Got a small tear but didnt need any stiches.

so finally 46 hours after my waters broke and contractions started my baby boy, Joseph Frank Topham, was born. weighing only 6lb 9! which was a shock as my midwife thought he would be big!

Hes so tiny and newborn clothes are drowing him going to have to go out and buy some early baby clothes!

Im so in love with him cant stop staring at him! Hes feeding better now after being a little monkey to start with! We are struggling with him sleeping in his moses basket he just wants to be cuddled all the time!

Sorry if this was a bit long winded but it just seemed to last for ages!

Lucy x

Im so in love with him

thats a pretty long labour :hugs: congrats on your little man :flower:

Congratulations Lucy, you did amazing! All the best for the future of your little family! xx

congratulaions on your little xmas pressie, love the name x little tip for moses basket that worked for us, roll up a couple of tops you have worn into sausage roll shapes and put them down either side of baby, also put a hot water bottle in basket for 10mins just before you put him in( obviously take it out before he goes in!) it makes basket lovely and warm and he can smell you so it tricks them into thinking mum is still holding them, defo worth a try xxx good luck
