My Birth Story :
29th June : 38 weeks 1 day Routine visit to the hospital to check babies position as she has been breached the whole pregnancy ...ultra sound showed baby was head down back to back with face tilted up and internal exam showed i was already 2 cm dilated (which was a suprise as i had not felt any pain ) but woopie only 8 cm more to go ...
Dr said may have to schedule a c- section as baby would be hard to deliver Naturally , if she does not put her down to engage (i was not convinced with her Results)...I insisted on natural delivery and asked for another Dr to check me at the same hospital for a second opinion ...second Dr said no c- section necessary 95 % of babies in this position engage during labor .
midwife asked me to rotate on the ball for baby to engage and put head down in order to descend into the birth canal
Dh gets a ball after hosp visit as he is against C..i did not use it as according to research it brings about labor and i did not want to do that till my daughter due date.However at DH insistence used it on 30th June to rotate on it for an hour
1st july
woke up at 3:30 am for routine peeing and had a bloody show with period like cramp ...
fell of to sleep woke up at 6:00am cramps are getting painful ...
then it stops around 6:50 am and i fell back to sleep
During the day pain comes and goes in irregular pattern...
6:00 pm they are becoming regular but they are bearable (i had no clue i was in labor)
10:00 pm they were coming every 15 mins and now i cannot focus through them.
11:30 pm its unberable i ask DH to take me to the hosp as i wanted to check if baby was okay .
2nd july
12:30am admitted to hospital in labor ward as midwife checks i am 5 cm dilated
and says baby will be here in 4- 6 hours. i am in a panic as i feel i am not ready wasnt expecting baby on that day ....Midwife offers me an epidural ..i wanted to wait till i am 6 cm dilated so labor would not slow down .
Air and gas helps but not to much (advised to take in air and gas as soon as you feel the contraction coming by the time it hits i felt so woozy and light headed and could not focus)
3:30am i asked for an epidural as pain is unbearable now i cannot breathe through them i just wanted it to stop air and gas does not help anymore ..i was 6 cm dilated
Little did i know the dr who was going to administer the epidural is still on his way to the hosp it takes him another half an hour to walk through the door and to prepare and then to administer (i would have asked for an epidural as soon as i came in if i knew it would take so long to give me one )
4:30amepidural was administered and i was told it would take another 10 min to take effect
by this time i was 7 cm dilated and My water had not broken
10 min later i could still feel every contraction mild and intense ...and told the dr that i am still feeling the pain ...he looked at me like i was joking he said no changes in pain i was like NO i feel all of it ..i was shaking in pain and just did not want to go through it anymore ...
then in another 10 mins No contraction No pain atleast i did not feel it (i did not know i was having contraction as monitored by the midwife but just no pain
the next hour was spent in fun joking and laughing and my DH and sister were trying to make me laugh so much ....i was suprised not to feel any pain at all i would have taken the epidural much before as now i felt to go through the pain before was really unnecessary .
5:40am
I was 9 cm dilated and asked the midwife to break my water .then had the scare of my life as soon as they broke my water i was focusing on the babies monitor and her heart beat was dipping fast and reached 69 in seconds... i screamed at my DH ...who in turn was screaming at the midwife and she asked me to shift a bit and readjusted the monitor i did and her HB picked up again phew...
6:00 am
My Dr walked in at 6:00 am and in mins i was pushing the epidural effect was reduced so i could push ...pushed for 40 min ..no pain just intense pressure when her head crowned and then one more push and she was out with loud cry (music to my ears) and my daughter was born at 6:40 am My Dh cut the cord and she was placed on me immediately for skin to skin i got 2nd degree tear and was given 3 stitches which i did not feel at all ....it was magical all i could say to her was Hi i was speechless ..... i was running on pure adrenaline the whole day i did not want to sleep just make sure she was okay ...the drs were pretty annoyed with me as i refused to let her out of my sight for her check up .and told them all checkup to be done in front of me and i be told what they were giving her and for what ...lol...I requested to be discharged from hospital at 4:00 pm the same evening.
All in all i had a good experience ...BF has been established, she cried the whole night for the first 2 Nights and since 4 days she sleeps through the night i have to wake her up every 3 hours for her to feed and change and she does not cry anymore through them ...it is an absolute delight to have her ...
