 My dog Ziggy was badly attacked by another dog a few weeks ago, he was bitten badly on his head and had swelling behind his eyes but the vet said it was all better. But he suddenly went blind on Friday, out of the blue. The vet said he has detached retinas and swelling behind both eyes. Yesterday he started bleeding from his nose and it's still happening. The vet said he doesn't know what's causing it and there isn't anything he can do other than put him under GA and explore but he's reluctant to do it as Ziggy is 11.
I'm so upset. We're taking him to a specialist on Monday but our vet said to prepare to hear bad news. Posting here as I know there are lots of doggy people about and I'm hoping someone might have experienced similar and have it turn out OK?

Oh hunni :hugs: I just wanted to send you cuddles, that's horrendous your poor doggy. Ill keep everything crossed that he's ok.

Oh poor doggy :( and poor you :(

Hope the specialist can do something for him x

Xx

Poor doggy ne you I hope you get good news xx :hugs:

aww that made me tear up  poor pup! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, hopefully you'll hear good news from the specialist and they'll be able to help poor Ziggy out :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Huge hugs to you and Ziggy :hugs: So hope the specialist can do something to help your pup.

Thanks all :hugs:. My mum took him for a walk today and saw the man whose dog attacked Ziggy, walking his other dog. It's very obvious Ziggy can't see now and the man came over to ask after him and cried when he heard how he is . It's a difficult situation as his dog is a rescue dog, the guy is a responsible dog owner and that was the first time he's had the dog off the lead since taking him from the rescue months ago. It was just bad luck as his dog got jumped on and frightened, then turned the corner and my dog was there, and I guess he was just so riled up he lashed out :(. The owner was so upset at the time, he threw his bike at his dog and even got on the ground and bit him trying to get him to stop, just awful :(.

I am so sorry! I really hope you get some answers and the specialist is able to make the poor guy feel better.

If you got the contact information for the owner of the dog that attacked him, they should be responsible for the bill to treat him.

This particularly resonates with me because my dog is also named Ziggie.

Oh no, I'm so sorry! How heartbreaking.

I don't have any advice, but the only thing I can say is - don't stop until you've exhausted everything. If a vet says, "I don't know", move on and find another vet. Look for hospitals, not clinics.

I was about to edit my post to put this exact statement in there.

He did offer to pay for any treatment and gave us his details so we could contact him with the bill if we changed our minds. We said no because although it was his dog who attacked ours it was more bad luck (with his dog being bitten just before) than him being irresponsible. Thankfully we're able to afford his bills but if we couldn't I would ask him to contribute x

I'm so sorry about what has happened. The other guy sounds like he's in pieces too. You must be devastated. I hope it can be treated. xxx

Aww god, I am so, so sorry.

I can't imagine how painful this is for your family

I'm really hoping for good news for your little Ziggy, give him looooads of cuddles. I'm so sorry you're going through this, I wish I could give you a real life hug :hugs:
