Hi I got my results through the post today and if I am honest it has freaked me out about, I am 30 and so know the chances are higher of having a child with Down Syndrome but it said I am low risk but its 1 in 750, surely this number is really low?? I have been trying to read up online and people my age are getting results in their thousands!!!! Has anyone else had similar?
xx

Did you have the Nucal fold scan too? The blood test is only about 40% accurate and has many false 'high risks' The nucal scan and blood test combined is about 90% accurate but still has false high risks. There is a 749 chance that baby is fine!
xx

Hi yes sorry its the test from both, the nuchal fold was 1. I just thought/hoped the number would be bigger I think! x

I think thats a fine rseult hun, don't look at it as 1 in 750 but 749 to 1 thats your baby is just fine.

Also - i have declined this test, as after research i'm not even sure how accurate it really is with its 'estimates'.

Hey Hun,I've freaked myself out researching aswell, everyone was saying I:49000 but mine came back 1:994 and I'm 26.I'm not happy with that but my friend was 1:5 and baby was perfect xx

Try not to worry, did you get the booklet about it? It said even if you go through to the next 2 rounds of testing and both come back positive, the odds still are that your baby won't have Down's. Mine was 1 in 34000 which I think is worse than the first pregnancy but they didn't do blood tests then so it was purely on the fluid in the fold.

1:750 is low risk. There is a link to a table below that gives you the risk of Downs depending on the age of the mum.

I'm going to 40 when my baby is due, so my risk before going for the test is around 1:100.

Thank you for replying, I seem only to be happy when I am worrying. I have talked to Bean :baby: and told him/her I love him lots and just to stick in there x

If you figure 1 in 750 as a percentage, it is 99.86% that the baby will be fine.

Hi Butterfly 80

Dont worry too much! I am 30 too, I just had a private Nuchal Scan and tests done earlier this week (I did create a post on it). I came back as 1:17892!! With fluid measuing 1.4.

I hope this puts your mind at rest a bit!

I'm 19, the fluid measured at 3.5mm and I got 1 in 700... sometimes it can be out or wrong.

It's just a test and no tests are EVER spot on.
